Hopefully the other deals are better then this crap otherwise Gorton is gonna get ripped apart.

Considering that I was the first to post the tweets about the Eric Staal trade, my first success at that. Don't expect that to be a good omen.

But this is Grabner. 32 year old bottom 6 rental forward who could barely make a lineup before comingto NY. Probably the best we were offered if trading with NJ
- nyrangers2

That's not really true. But ok.

This is how NJ stole him instead of sticking to a cheap speed machine who helps your PK tremendously and is one of the top even strength goal scorers over the last season and a half

Me neither brother. This is not a good start. Holden trade looks impressive compared to this one

Gorton has been taking heat for past deals on this thread this one not gonna improve people's take on him and his ability to build this team into future

Jeff Gorton has been riding his success of being the scout that engineered the Rask to Boston trade. That is it.

My problem with it is to make a deal with the Devils, it better be substantially better than other things that are out there.

My biggest problem with it is the Russian kid isn’t expected to come over soon. Obviously he’s the key to the deal.

I agree 100%. No GM on earth is going to trade for 2nd if he knows for sure he could get a first if he waits a day or two. It just wasn’t there for him as much as we thought or wanted it to be. It’s in the 40s range, as opposed to in the 25-35 range. Is it that big of a deal?

Who really turned it around once arriving here. Do you want Grabs back next year? I certainly do.

I said earlier today I don't think you get a 1st fro Grabner, hes a 20 game rental.
The Rangers lost ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in this deal. People don't seem to get that. He is a UFA next year, he can sign anywhere including the Rangers. Having him on the roster for the next ~20 games does one thing... improve their chances of winning a few games and subsequently negatively affect their draft p[positions in each round.

So for cutting his season with the Rangers short for 20 games the Rangers get a FREE 2nd round pick and a prospect that NOBODY knows anything about or how he will eventually pan out.

If they traded Grabner for a 1st and they drafter a bust and resigned Grabner next year, they would be in a worse spot. They turned a guy they were going to lose into the following:
A Prospect who the jury will be out on for the next 3-4 years
A Draft pic who the jury will be out on for the next 5-6 years
An equal Chance to resign Grabner

Put things in perspective people! 20 GAMES!

NHL club exec on Grabner to Devs:
"Very good value for NYR, 2nd rd pick for 3rd liner & possible 4-5 NHL D in Rykov, who is poor man's Dmitri Orlov (B+ prospect). Catch is he's playing in KHL, they tend to lock up players. If he comes over it's a bonus, that's the trick for NYR

The 2nd round pick is the key to the deal. Rykov is a throw in for organization depth

Are we trading him for what he did everywhere else? Or his 52 goals in a season and a half with us

Rangers knew early they weren’t getting a 1st for Grabner. A 2nd and a prospect was next best thing. Rangers are happy about the move

Just weird sending him to your primary rival if you want him back. I just think it’s a weird trade. Not saying I wouldn’t trade with a rival but it better be a no doubt type of deal
