Neither did a number of countries.
I heard that Willie said after the game that they didn't take the German's seriously enough. Seems to be an echo from the Calgary playoff series a few years back.

Germany was missing Draisatl .... we were missing a whole team so I don't think that adds up.

I want to know why TG is throwing Philip Holm in against the best team in the league They play Arizona the day before the deadline.

good point. May as well start Holm vs a top team I guess?? See how he stacks up?

Not going to/can't disagree with you on a lot of things you bring up – this issue is much more nuanced and bridges across multiple areas (psychology, sociology, cultural acceptances, etc.) than the initial US school shootings we originated from.

The entitlement aspect is interesting as that opens up a giant can of worms: parenting, culture, criminal justice system, alternative justice... though I would say criminals throughout history have had to be pretty arrogant

And yes, I think it's the bad ones who are mostly giving police officers a bad name – and somewhere along the line it was cool to hate cops? But there is also a huge difference between police in the US and Canada: from cultural persuasion (as with the school shootings), to their weaponry (basically a small military now), to the history of racism and Jim Crow laws and bigotry that still holds over now, to actually just their training in a lot of deescalation is to draw a gun.

I think that mindset goes hand in hand with the culture we're talking about. Some guy who's breaking into your garage or storage to steal something is worth being killed? Basically, material goods > life ? It's the same mindset that's seen in some of those arrests-gone-wrong videos: the first reaction is to reach for a gun/shoot. (To be fair, if there's a larger life-or-death element, that's different.)

Exactly what I was thinking. Americans too often look for a reason to shoot. I was one child who had parents that stole on occasion to feed us although it would be from the meat section in a grocery store but point is there is a story behind thievery that changes context. People with mental illness do explainable things and young adults make mistakes.... killing thieves is worse than what Saudi does... they just take a hand. Pretty extreme.

It's Philip Holm time!

Here's the preview of tonight's game from Vegas and a bit of the latest TDL chatter:

I kind of hope he does.. Why not? What do we have to lose? Good test for the kid against a tough/fast team. If he starts to sink, then cut his minutes, but why not see what we have in him

I'm curious as to where you heard this?
- Marwood

Karlsson when Dion left, All of the Leafs when he left. Kessel, Kadri, JVR, Reilly all guys who played with him all hated how he was treated in the media and liked the guy. Seems like he was really well liked in Ottawa too. Maybe getting chased out of Calgary for having a fat head calmed him down a little, maybe I'm really off bass. But there is a many, many interviews with guys that clearly think highly of him.

The Russian dopers.
The Swedes.
USA.
Czechs, Finns, Slovaks.
Canada was made up of has-beens and had a disaster of a coach. They over achieved to even be medalling, in my opinion.

I don't care if he's moved as he won't bring in much but I'll be stoked if he's back next year.
