OR just keep your picks.

Draft and Develop. DD

More picks = higher odds of finding quality prospects = higher odds of a quality prospect turning into a future core player

Always a tough debate. While I slightly agree that a few 'extra' laws may help in the short term...until the American 'celebratory' culture of guns and violence changes well..not much will change. I firmly believe it's a culture issue and not a 'guns and access' issue. There were more guns per capita in the States for example in the 40's and 50's but yet little to no mass shootings. It's a tough issue that sparks big debate.

Totally. Americans love killing Americans. A long, rich history of it. But you point it out and all of a sudden they’re brothers and you are the enemy.

Too bad we’re not a contender and/or warm weather city. We get the 2nd tier college UFA’s unless they’re local boys.

People say that Colorado got too much for Duchene.
Samuel Girard (2nd)
Vladislav Kamenev (2nd)
2018 2nd round pick

Shane Bowers (late 1st)
Andrew Hammond
2018 1st round pick
2018 3rd round pick

Avs are the only team that didn't end up with a 50-60 point player out of the deal.

Only reason Nashville didn't have to give up a first because both of their prospects are a lot closer to the NHL then Ottawa's.

Trade # 1

Sam Gagner, Jake Virtanen and Ben Hutton
For
Boone Jenner, David Savard and 2nd round pick.

Salaries are pretty close. Clb gets PP help, young Defensive depth and a young cheap player with upside.
Canucks get forward with size but has stalled offensively, RHD for PP and stability and a pick.

Trade # 2
Tanev, Tryamkin rights
for
Brett Howden, 1st round pick, and KoekKoek

Trade # 3
Vanek
For
Berglund (cap dump) and 2nd round pick

Trade # 4
Sutter
For
Hagelin and 2nd round pick.

Baertschi Horvat Boeser
Hagelin Jenner Eriksson
Seeing Sedin Berglund
Archibald Dowd Goldobin

Edler Gudbranson
Delzotto Savard
KoekKoek Stetcher

Extra prospect, a 1st and three 2nds.....rebuild and retool complete.

One reason why Nashville is where they are today is because they kept their picks instead of trying to take shortcuts by trading for other team's AHL'ers. They didn't try to sign UFA's to long-term contracts while they were trying to build up their team. Now people are trying to emulate them.

And the Avs fans are thrilled that they traded their 50-60 point center for a bunch of maybe's.

If you have a GM who’s best strength is his drafting and your team has finished in the basement during 3 out of the last 4 years, why wouldn’t you want more picks?
- Nucker101

Of course more picks but how is that done?
Took a few years to clean house of old lousy contracts. Shows how bad MG left us.

By that logic, we wouldn't trade Vanek/Gagner/Granlund/Hutton/Etc for a late 1st round pick.

lol..they don't want Sutter back.

I don't see the Jackets biting on that deal.

Other 2 would be interesting.

Trade deadline only relates to adding players to the active roster for playoffs. There is still going to be ...what ? Three or four months till the draft? Plenty of time to assess your options and make more moves for picks or prospects . I'd say we would do much better at the lead up to draft day for our....ahem assets then we would get at the trade deadline. No need to panic about how many picks we have in February... let the season wash out. If at the draft JB hasn't made his moves , then you have something to female dog about.

Kind of contradictory statement since most of the picks that JB has acquired is from JB's "lousy contracts"

Kesler
Burrows
Garrison
Bieksa
Lack
Hansen

All brought picks/prospects

Stars offered a pick for Hamhuis, but it was a late one so JB said no thanks.

Only Higgins/Sedins look to be bad contracts, the rest were all moveable and brought back picks lol

Nashville has the best GM in the business, that's why. TL should pick Poile's brain instead of Sakic's FFS.

It's well known that it's much harder to acquire draft picks at the draft than at the TDL.

I get the whole “phase 1” for Benning - restock the prospect pool and try to close the age gap on the NHL roster. It sounded good, but he failed miserably at it. Now we are waiting for the restocked prospect pool to actually accomplish the age thing, so in hind sight, not closing the age gap would have meant more (higher) picks and a quicker turn around.

It basically the opposite of the "trade everyone but Bo and Brock" people. It's not that simple.

That and they took the pain for a very long time. So so bad for many moons. But you are right, they stayed the course and built from the ground up the right way. Very well positioned now to stay on top for decades.

Crazy how it's almost impossible to predict how a prospect will do. Vesey had 2 better seasons then Kerfoot every had in college. Kerfoot has 9 more points then Vesey did in 23 less games in the NHL.

Kyle Connor had 11 more points then Boeser in his first year of College. Now Boeser has 12 more points then Connor does in their first year in the NHL.

Guillaume Brisebois has 1 more point then Jakob Zboril. 66 pick compared to the 13 pick.

- manvanfan

Connor has looked pretty dam good. I agree with Vesey. Comparing Defensive dmen by points isn't really relevant.

I don't think wanting to trade Vanek and a dman who has value(Gudbranson) is ridiculous.
