Wingers are far too often overpaid.
A good to great C are golden & wingers not much use without them. Soft perimeter players in general & disappear in the big games very often. |

Exactly . One of the few times we agree - VANTEL
In the end though, If you look at where the best D in the league were drafted. It's normally in the 1st and 2nd rounds.
Karlsson 15oa
Burns 20oa
Keith 54oa
Buff 245oa
Yandle 105oa
Weber 49oa
Doughty 2oa
Letang 62oa
Subban 43oa
Suter 7oa
Hedman 2oa
Pietrangelo 4oa
Those are just the top 12 point scoring Dman over the past 8 years. As you can see there are a few occasional people found outside the top 2 rounds.

He's a smart guy. His arrogance did him in, the other GM's hated his guts. Never fit in, you need to co-exist with you counterparts, lose that and your fuked. |

Yes
JB doesn’t have a vet blue chip to trade.
MG screwed up with Luongo & didn’t do us any favours in the end. |

I am not sure how much influence MG had in the Canucks drafting while he was GM though. The guy was an agent turned GM wasn't he? I am not sure he had much influence at all. |

He probably had some say. The fact is he couldn't see that the current scouting team sucked. Didn't change them at all. |

3 Players in his many years as GM...
Bo is a great pick
Hutton was decent
Hodgson was half decent and he had a couple good years.
everyone else was AHL level talent with possible 4th line potential(only 1 or 2)or just trash. |

I was a bit surprised when Trent Cull said that Demko isn't NHL ready. He was there when Vaselskiy (totally misspelled) was there. |

as a General Manager, you ultimately have the sign of approval on hockey trades, and drafting, but you aren't the lead scout.
Benning is known as a scout, and a professional in talent analysis correct? If you watched the video of the 2017 draft for day 2 or rounds 2-7, when it came to their second 2nd round pick (Jonah Gadjovich), he had absolutely no idea who he was. Brackett brought up his name, and Weisbrod told him he would be a big/strong body who would be hard for teams to play against. All in all, if you think GM's have the time to travel the world to see players over NA and Europe, and run the day-to-day operations, you are sorely mistaken. That is the purpose of having a scouting department. |

I think he was too focused on "now" to even care about the prospect pool. Gillis traded the farm and the future for a chance to win a cup. I never felt like Gillis ever cared about prospects or drafting during his tenure as GM |

Baertschi Horvat Boeser
Virtanen Gaudette Goldy
Granlund Gagner Eriksson
Archie Sutter Gaunce
Gaudette and Goldy could replace the Sedin's production (maybe). Depending on who Van drafts, Svechnikov, Zadina, Tkachuk. Slide Baertschi off top line and onto another line.
Edler Gudbranson
MDZ Stecher
Pouliot Tanev
If Van could sign someone like a Will Butcher (Brickley?) Trade MDZ. If they Draft Bouchard, Dobson and they seem ready. Trade Tanev.

That is why Nonis is such an enigma. He was such a bad GM it defies logic.
