Someone said NYR will finish their rebuild before VAN.

Could very well happen.

- VanHockeyGuy

Prob because they are willing to blow it up, while still having pieces to shelter the next generation. W have pieces to shelter, but not the pieces to blow it up with.

I am baffled at the asking price. he is a UFA at the end of the season, not really sure why anyone would sell the farm and future for a UFA.
- Codes1087

i'm as baffled as the rick nash sweepstakes a few years ago.

Yeah, that asking price is ridiculous for Nash. Should be a 2nd at the most.

Nash isn't a very good hockey player and he hasn't been for a long time. Vanek would be a way smarter trade than Nash.

I think NYR (23rd place) will finish below VAN (26th place).

I think we finish (23rd-24th overall).

For sure.

But to be fair, they have a few advantages.

1. More tradable assets that are coveted league-wide
2. Pretty good scouting staff
3. Easier to attract college UFA's since NYC is one of the best cities to live in if you're rich
4. Easier to attract UFA's without overpaying for the same reason.

that salary would be tough for any team to take on too, as a rental.

7.8 aav, even pro-rated would be really tough.

1/10th of the cost for the same production.
- Codes1087

get drafted early, build a rep and then coast on the confirmation bias that is rampant in the nhl.

He'll probably play better with a fresh start as well, but he's definitely overrated t this point.

I mean, he did put up 42 points with 21 goals in 44 games after that trade. And then potted 42 goals a couple of years later.

He's not that player anymore, but I think playing a lesser role on a better team will help be more efficient.

oh come on. he's been paid like a 1st line superstar for pretty much his entire career.

he's fast and he can score some goals. he just doesn't score that much anymore.

sure he scored 40 a few seasons ago but the previous 40 goal season was a decade ago.

he's a 20-30 goal scorer at best and he's paid like he's a cross between bertuzzi and ovechkin.

a fresh start isn't doing anything. he's coasting until retirement.

So you think he brings no value as a secondary scorer to a playoff team? I'm not even saying I would target him if I were a GM of a playoff team, but I can see why teams have interest.

It kinda gets boring after that for the bad teams

he doesn't score that much in the playoffs.

he's overpaid and he comes with a big name. that's the type of player i would avoid as a gm.

you want complementary players not former "superstars" that you think will do well with a lesser role. find role players that actually will file the role. not an overpaid, underplaying vet.
