he will be named captain savior from this day on

Anyone notice Colorado winning 5-4 yesterday vs. Vancouver?

Zero 5 x 5 goals.

All 5 on the pp

I can live without nhl'ers...have done it before...but, they should have added more youth...talk about me being a pachyderm, my god team usa was old
- Michael Pachla

Neither the US nor Canada added any junior-eligible players. It supposedly was a handshake deal, but that probably lent to it. However, they could have had more college aged players as well.

if miller plays average in the second half of that game 7, sabres win

(hides)

- homiedclown

I remember: Miller wasn't the sharpest, but we were down 3 or 4 regulars on defense.

Similar to the :lehner sucks now, or is it the defense?

It's both

it was the soviet all stars vs mike ramsey, ken morrow and a bunch of players that never had more than a cup of coffee in the nhl

nothing will compare to that team, their heart and the determination for david to beat goliath

- homiedclown

This. Most of them made it, yes, but were soon gone.

Heart and determination, and a coach that knew what buttons to push and when to push them.

I look back at the Carolina conference finals.
Jay McKee went down.

Wish we had a gorges or weber
And not a 3rd or 4th pick.

Gorges to the caps for a 3rd?

- Boss34

Agree the depth can make a big difference, it's just that there are a lot of teams out there with 6-7 defenseman available for rentals...why Gorges? That's all.

Wouldn't you rather get Oduya or Holden for right around the same price? Holden cost a low grade prospect and a 3rd, but it just surprises me that he's not passed on for better options.

Nelson has played well. Someone said he was a ufa over 25 played parts of 3 pro seasons. Sabres website has him as a rfa. He's one of 5 guys I wouldn't move.

Friendly wager is still on with gorges
I think I'm 1st thru 4th rounder?

You are 5th, above or not at all

- Boss34

Over 25
3 Pro seasons
less than 80 NHL games

He's met the first 2 and can't get to the 3rd.

Don't wanna come off as a jerk but more devil's advocate. Back then there wasn't even a medal round. which i might add is weak in itself. It would have been tougher to win under today's tournament setup. and even today's setup is weak. agreed? shoot outs? That said they are the Olympic Gold medal champions and no one can take that away.

I'm pretty sure gorges value is based on his leadership and experience. He does show up and play.

It's how he plays that's in question.

Probably are better options. I guess it depends on what a team is lacking? Grit vs. Skill
Pittsburgh seams like a landing spot.

I was at that game in the old Aud. Probably the best sporting event i have ever been too. The game was played just after the commie Russkies invaded Afghanistan and everyone thought WWIII was going to happen. Huge amount of tension in the rink - it was very political. The Sabres absolutely destroyed the vaunted Red Army machine.

nothing will be as special as when the 80 team won gold and beat the russians with olympic hockey

nothing since has been remotely close

you can shut the nhl down for the next 15 olympics, and let the best of the best play and it still won't be near what those of us saw

unless latvia wins the gold and beats canada, russia, sweden and usa in the process

and teddy is coaching the latvians

1987 Canada Cup.

3 game final - all 6-5. The level of hockey was off the hizzay!

Team Canada's 1st power play unit:

Messier - Gretzky - Lemieux
Bourque - Coffey

There will never be a better 5-man unit play together.

Evah!

to put it in perspective

usa beating the russians in 1980 would be like guelph university hockey team beating the 2018 maple leafs in a meaningful game
