There's been so much build about this, especially around here with you guys, that I feel Im gonna be let down and someone in the west is gonna snag him.
- MattStrat

HA! I literally just thought this. WPG came to mind.

I said earlier, I'd be more than content with Plekanec. I think Plekanec makes this team the toughest forward squad lines 1-4 in the East.

The only other teams I can see going big for a center are Columbus or Winnipeg. Columbus is barely in a playoff spot so are they as motivated. I hear Jets more on wing but they want a splash somewhere. Just a gut feeling GMJR pits in the best offer. He's been known to push extra if he identifies a guy.

Cullen is not coming back. I clearly have no knowledge of anything, but MIN is surging right now and Cullen is part of that surge. From what I've read his play has finally come back around.

What move would you guys prefer in a deal for Brassard?

1st + Sheary

2nd + Sheary + Sprong

I don't know much, but I feel the deal would look something like one of those.

- Rinosaur

1st plus Sheary. I still value Sprong more than a 1st so that's easy for me.

Incidentally, I was just reading today that the draft doesn't look as deep as it did earlier in the year, so trading a 1st may get more likely.

Pittsburgh continues to have interest in Brassard but money/cap space is an issue for Pitt. Need to find a way to get cap space

I still think the best move of all is the one I've made up in my head...

TO BUF: Huwnick
TO PIT: Girgensons

Buffalo gets a dman they need under a reasonable contract since they lose a few this year.

Pens get an upgrade at 4C with one more season at a reasonable RFA contract and don't give up any futures.

Im not that in tune with the west team's needs but its not far fetched that a team sends a lesser 2C or 3C who costs less to the Sens in exchange.

Do we have a semi accurate $ number we need to get off the books?

Without looking at anything, I'd say moving Hunwick frees it up. This also make me think that Sheary is not a player OTT wants. Sheary's contract should clearly free up enough.

Sheary at 3mil is not a bargain for a budget team. I'd offer Hunwick to TO for a 5th.

2 years of brassard with Geno and Sid still playing at a high level is worth it to me. I know they are all world superstars but at some point age catches up with everyone. Rolling out guentzel brassard and phil is a night mare for any team. I'm not saying we will win the cup for certain but damn will it be insanely difficult to eliminate us. I'd give up sprong the 1st and sheary personally. It's only an overpay if you don't win. We win another cup no one is going to care.

I read somewhere that OTT likes Sheahan. Sheahan has finally grown on me and would hate to move him, but if the Pens used Sheahan as a piece to get Brassard they'd still need to make a secondary move to shore up the 4C position.

Could Hunwick be that piece?

EDIT: Use Sheahan to get Brassard then Hunwick to get Letestu?

I'm curious.. I saw a quote from Stevie Y on the Lightning saying he's not interested in trading roster players and he only wants to add to the team. I wonder if GMJR is in the same boat (with the likes of Sheary, Sheahan, Guentzel, ZAR-- the regulars in the lineup).

I really fn hope they dont trade Sheahan. I really like his style of play, he's young, he's cheap and he's cost controlled.

Unless he figures out a way to move the cap up he can't be in that boat

I think he'd easily part with Sheary. I think if Sheahan was the only thing holding up the Brassard deal, I think he'd do it. He's not going to part with ZAR because he can't part with a guy that specifically chose his team out of everyone else. I think Guentzel would be off limits too.

Yohe mentioned yesterday that Rutherford loves the depth of the D and probably wouldn't want to move Hunwick. Of course that's speculation.

Year after year the draft is never as deep as they say. Its crazy people still buy into that when year after year after pick 20 its very shallow in terms of NHL talent. Bobby mac, Dreger and Lebrun were saying its an average draft which from looking at draft results over the last 20 years there is like 2 really good drafts and thats it.

Hunkwick looked pretty damn good to me the past two games...with the exception of the first 10 mins of his first game back in 9 games, that is.

I think moving Sheary would get them close if not there. Hunwick probably isn't enough. I guy like Kuhnhackl would make sense to dump for a little room.

I agree, much as he frustrates me, Hunwick provides really nice depth.

I hope they don't move Sheahan for Brassard.

Agree that ZAR and Guentzel are probably off limits. Jake is still on pace for about 25 goals and makes near league minimum next year.

Is DB's cap hit 5m of 3.5m? I thought I saw somewhere it was $3.5mil. If so Sheary and Khun would be enough. Not for Ottawa but for Cap.
