That doesn't make Sprong 100% expendable at the moment, especially for a rental in Kane. - j.boyd919
even if not for kane....just anyone talked about you start with a first and if thats not enough maybe sprong is worth just enough more....still one of the few non roster shinny objects the pens can deal.... |

I get it...but as far as role goes Simon and ZAR have definitely passed Sprong... - Pukeboy768
Aren't they both natural centers as opposed to Sprong who is a natural winger?
Edit: Also, Sprong is a player who needs to play with top-6 talent to maximize his skill set as opposed to those two who can play anywhere in the middle-6. |

capfrendly has simon as a "C" (but only been playing wing in NHL) and ZAR as a "C,RW" again only as a winger in NHL and sprong as a "RW" |

I haven't been able to watch the Pens regularly often (have an 8-day old baby) so I was genuinely asking.
Still, positions/roles/roster shape have to be taken into account. Not exactly as black and white as "This player is on the roster, therefore he is better than any player not on the roster." |

No, they're both mostly playing LW while Sprong is strictly a RW. Has as much to do with attitude issues (entitled) as much as anything far as I can tell, and wanting him to work on nuances to his game at the AHL. |

Sprong hasn't even played a full season in the AHL yet. ZAR and Simon are 3 years older.

Agree and congrats on the new baby. Pens are definitely stronger at RW, even more so once Hornqvist returns. |

It has appeared as if position/role/etc ZAR and Sprong are interchangeable...and ZAR has been on fire lately |

One other thing that I remember reading was that the Penguins want Sprong to be better without the puck. The AHL is the place to work on that, not on the roster of the 2-time defending champs.
I, personally, think Sprong is a bit overrated. But it's also not like he's a bust because he hasn't staked a full-time job on the NHL roster as a 20-year-old rookie. |

I don't think too many have Sprong has absolutely untouchable in a hockey trade, just not for a rental wing. With young guys like ZAR and Simon providing depth, there isn't an appetite to pay big for a rental winger. |

the longer GMJR goes without making a splash leads me to think it will be somebody completely off the radar no one predicted

Any interest in Artem Anisimov?

For the extra 500Gs I would rather have Brassard. TBH I thought he was playing in the KHL or something |

It's definitely both of those things. I see some of the flaws. He's a bit of a floater who's so focused on the offensive side of the game that he gets caught watching when the puck unexpectedly goes the other direction.

Market is just locked up, nobody has flinched on the big names.
I feel like the Pens are the contender most serious about adding a center. Jets have kicked it around but don't really need one and could do just fine with a wing. Jackets but how big do you go when you're a fringe playoff team?
I think it simply comes down to the Sens and Habs, especially Sens, deciding if the offer is good enough. I don't see another team making a crazy bid for Brassard, but Sens are probably going to wait until the last minute and hope somebody does. |

RW, if you are going to discredit the empty net goals, but say his shooting percentage is ridiculously high, then account for his shooting percentage with a goalie in the net.
With 131 shots and 25 goals = 19.1% shooting percentage, if you take out his empty net goals 124 shots and 18 goals = 14.5 % shooting percentage, still high, but not ridiculously high like stated in blog. |
