Guys, there has to be a happy medium. Yes, it's idiotic to suggest the Leafs would trade Marner or Nylander for McDonagh.
But you're also not getting him for a pile of garbage. 4th liners and lottery tickets (2nd round picks) aren't going to do it.

- BestRapperAlive

I'd imagine it would be Kap (young roster forward), Dermott (young defensive prospect) + 1st.

not really..

Rielly - Hainsey
McDonagh - Zaitsev
Dermott - Carrick/Polak

- PatC80

McDonagh is not really a puck mover like gardiner. Gardiner drives the pp
When gardiner is dialed in he is one of the best. When he is not dialed in it’s Jekyll and Hyde. I say keep him. Reilly has million dollar wheels but 10 cent imagination unlike gardiner so if you get rid of gardiner who will be the man driving pp? Gardiner is better than Reilly. Only my opinion.

as long as you didn't draft strome top 10, you really shouldn't be disappointed.

and heck, he may work out yet.

- Tumbleweed

Strome's and Reinhart's. Destroying careers since 2010.

Lebrun just tweeted that the Leafs are one of the 10 teams McDonagh would accept a trade too..

Weird that he would want to play for a team that has no shot at a Cup..

- PatC80

yeah but Boston is on the list 5 times, and Tampa is on it 4 times.

Exactly. 2 quality young players and a 20-30 overall pick. I don't know if I'd do it, but that's what it would take.

I laugh when I see the proposals of Leivo, Bracco, Holl, Moore, 2nd, 4th, conditional 7th and Richard Park

I'm just a fan and while I try to be reasonable in trade scenarios at least I realize it's all in good fun here as nothing I say has any bearing on the actual team. So excuse me while I dream up fleecing the rangers for a quality D-man.

As much as it kills me to ever compliment Gardiner, I'll say this much about him:

On the powerplay, he can cross the blueline and set up better than just about any other defenceman in the league.

Gawd, I feel dirty for typing that.

Guys that set up a PP better than Gardiner off the top of my head.

Shattenkirk, Barrie, Karlsson, Ghost Bear, Burns, Klingberg, Subban, Josi, Suter, Big Buff, Faulk, Ristolainen, Green, Yandle, OEL...Werenski.

Duthie and Simmons are probably the only 2 guys that think the Leafs should trade Marner or Nylander..
- PatC80

Simmons gets his inspiration from Berger... who got his inspiration from Harold Ballard (who basically ensured he(Berger) got access to Maple Leaf Gardens back in the day)....

Ballard recognized Berger for being a dupe who could co-erced into saying anything the Leafs were doing was great...which clearly was not the case.

Duthie should know better... but I think these guys are collectively so hungry for hits in the local media market, since everything has dried up under Shanahan and Lou (no leaks) that they just say stupid s__t to get attention.

Trading Marner or Nylander ... would have to be a legitimate top tier #1 guy coming back. McDonaugh is not that.

While it's always difficult to compare forwards and defensemen....

I'm still on the Hanifin train. But I can totally understand you for being happy with Marner with no regrets about it. Good player.
