I know it is a cliche, but I think it comes down to goaltending against either team.

For me the "X factor" about the Leafs this year is the fact that Babcock has not burnt out his top players all year, or his defense. They also have the easier part of their schedule in the last quarter of the season.

The complexion of this team may change when ice time starts to change ... or maybe Babcock still roles 4 lines and rotates the D and the Leafs are able to endure the war of attrition that is the playoffs.

Could potentially be burning out the goalie though and both Boston and Tampa Bay have goalies that have played better than Andersen and could play even better if they are better rested than he is too.

So Rask and Vasilevskiy are not gonna play much down the stretch?

(frank) guys! We’re not in first! Rebuild - time to ship out Bergeron’s old ass for picks.
- RickJames77

Ya but Broons beat Tampa back in November, 3 - 2, so...cup is yours.

Don't they play Tampa 3 more times?

Now what?

Member all of those first round match ups where #1 seed played #8 seed and the #1 seed won every single series? #2 beat #7 every steenking time and 3 vs 4...to close to call you say? Nope #3 beat #4 100% of the time cuz standings and stats and stuff.

Rask has been given a lighter work load most of the season, his games played are way lower than Andersen's. Vasilevskiy may or may not get a break. One thing is for sure though and that's Andersen is pretty much guaranteed to face more shots than both of them by the end of the season, even if they do play the same amount of games.

Boston has 23 games left with a month and a half remaining in the season. I doubt Boston plays Khudobhin a lot from this point on.

That's actually the perfect reason to play Khudobin more. And his SV% is .922 so I don't think they're really that scared to do it either. Same reason Babcock shouldn't be afraid to play McElhinney more.

You like Dermott? Because it wasn't long ago he was a 2nd round pick.

But sure, keep everybody, still lose and get nothing. Totally going to help the process.

Nah Lou's goalies are built for endurance. They come to play the game every night a la martin brodeur. They are soldiers they dont like sitting around watching someone else play in there net. They have pride and think if there teammates are out there they should be to.

Brodeur had a D in front of him that guaranteed he didn't work as hard as Andersen has to. Remember the time the Leafs took 6 shots in a whole game against the Devils? Not even close to a good comparison.
