Nash for me, because he will be cheaper and short term. Not sold on JVR on a long term high money deal.
- Pete V

Ya im with you there. Nash can still score at the levels JVR does if he were to bounce back. bug if tho

JVR is pretty much a high 20's goal scorer and 5 years younger.

Tom, there is going to be plenty of picks and prospects. After this year, the Rangers will have drafted 3-4 players in the first round in a two year period, and still have some young players on the team. It doesn't have to be a total tear down. You pick the pieces you want to keep around, you add young players to the club, and when the time is right you supplement through free agency. I don't see this as a 4-5 year process. I see it as a 1-2 year process to be competitive again, and a 2-4 year process to be really competitive if they do it right. Just my opinion.

I know. I was joking, kind of.

not when one guy wants a 7 year deal and the other (presuming here..) would take a 3 year deal

I think Nash is a much more complete player, but JVR will pot more goals

Yup. Younger player with more upside than Nash currently has.
As much as I would like to bring Nash back, I'd have to go with JVR.

maybe the Rangers could get lucky with JVR and have him accept a long term deal, like 7 years long, that would keep the overall cap hit just below 6 mil a year

but, that probably would take a NMC and, you cant forget the Seattle expansion draft and being forced to protect NMC's again

I know he's a good player. But as a UFA, he might get a poop ton of money for 7 years. And I would prefer to not spend that money on guys that I don't consider to be elite level talents. There is one guy I would spend a boatload on this summer (Tavares), and maybe one more if the first guy were to sign (Carlson). If the Rangers could pull that miracle, screw the rebuild.

Kind of end up in the same place though. JVR would be 35 if you gave him a 7 year deal and Nash will be 36 after a 3 year deal.

Really don't want to sign anyone to a 7 year contract. I understand the logic, but how many of those deals really work out?
Is the expansion a sure thing?

I just think JVR would be more productive than Nash, and would sign a friendly deal.
