He has upped his physical game which is a bonus. But I think his skating, positioning, and his sheer magician like skill with his stick is what has set him apart. You simply cant stick handle around him because he is better with his stick than you are.
And I have never seen a guy better than him when it comes to keeping the puck in the zone at the blue line. He is like a gold glove third baseman out there. - MBFlyerfan
Agreed. The only former Flyers who rival him in their ability to both keep the puck in at the point and control it with the deftness of Ghost, are Howe and Pronger and that's pretty amazing company! |

Sometimes he will catch a puck with his stick or somehow stop a puck going 100 mph with his body and I will be like, "how the hell did he do that?!"

A real upgrade for the D, which in my opinion is a second pair guy to allow Manning to sit and one of Amac or Hagg to play 3rd pair minutes is going to cost a 1st round pick.
Hexy has a very tough decision.
Itâs not something he would have even considered giving up, but their recent play and with the year G and Jake are having I think itâs an option he must be considering now.
A veteran third pair defenseman to replace Manning is going to cost two mid round picks Iâm guessing, like a 3rd and a 4th, and you may not improve all that much.
Tough tough call. - Marc D
Chances are 1 of the 6 D will get hurt, down the stretch or in the playoffs. If they will replace from within they better get Alt or SanHeim some minutes in the NHL. I like getting Oduya, he shouldn't cost more than a 4th or conditional 5th

I wouldnât celebrate yet. This is par for the course with the way Flyers handle injuries.
Probable today since there is no game. He could not have a pulse and theyâd list him as probable. Funeral most likely is Sunday. |

Let me translate that Flyers speak for you.
After last night's game, Travis Konecny fainted, his face hit a running skate grinder, and 2 players tripped over him with their skates on causing 17 skate-sized lacerations on his back. He was subsequently cryogenically frozen while doctors attempt to come up with the cure for having no semblance of a face and 17 stabs wounds to the back.
Currently, doctors are up to 15. |

ill say again, I really liked Flip but his confidence is very low, I hope he can turn it down the stretch. Trade and him and insert Brassard, ouch that would make 4 real good lines - wcorvette
I don't see it as a confidence issue, I see it as his offensive skills are declining. He can still make an occasional play, and he still plays well away from the puck. Fillpula has done exactly what he was acquired for. He bought the team some time until Patrick was ready to take a bigger bite and get his strength back. With how important the center position is, I think the Flyers would've been in a hole this year if they didn't have Fillpula.

In related Philadelphia sports injury news, Carson Wentz had both legs amputated today. The second one was done out of precaution as team doctors were concerned he may favor it and tear the other ACL. |

Solid solid news, although if itâs even minor right now, whatâs one game compared to many more if he re injures it? Iâd sit him for precautionary reasons alone. We need him for the entire stretch run. |

I think not putting your best players to score on a PP is not the best usage of the man advantage.
Most of the time the powerplay ends, the puck is still in the offensive zone or at the very least in possession of the team on the powerplay. - VladDrag
They do.
That is why Provorov mans the 2nd unit. They have a top 10 unit. The 2nd unit is really not too much of a concern because the talent on the first unit should score. if not then the 2nd unit really only gets about 30 seconds or less once they are in the zone.
Honestly the 2nd PP unit is low on my list of things that need to improve for this team to have continued success in the playoffs. |

This. I don't want a guy with little to no (not literally "no") NHL experience having to be ready to go at the drop of a hat in the playoffs. Would have been nice to get Sanheim some more games, but we needed more "grit" and "good teammate" minutes apparently.
Manning really did a great job filling in when we were depleted on the back end, but he has just been bad for the last 10 games or so, despite the team winning. |

It's not a logic fail, it's the fact that he is one of the best 6 defenseman on the roster. That's why Manning stays in the lineup. Until one of Sanheim or Morin, or another player earns a promotion and pushes him down in the lineup, Manning will remain in the lineup. - MJL
And there it is. |

Yeah but how often did you see see Kimmo or even Ghost GET overpowered? This is what we are talking about here. We aren't saying Sanheim has to overpower players, we are saying he has to stop being overpowered.
Kimmo was a bull. pound for pound as strong as any player in the league. Ghost doesn't get overpowered because he is elusive and savvy. Sanheim isn't there yet, He is used to being bigger than players due to his sheer size. Not the case in the NHL. He needs to be stronger. - MBFlyerfan
I recall Ghost getting overpowered plenty of times. Kimmo was obviously older when he got here. Sanheim is not a player that has ever relied on being than everyone. I don't find that element to be necessary for him to succeed. Would he be better? Hell yeah
He isn't an idiot and he will learn to be better. I struggle to see how him getting overpowered a couple times makes watching Manning worth it. It is a bit like complaining about Voraceks turnovers IMO. Sure it would be nice if that didn't happen, but is anyone going to tell him to stop leading the league in assists? Take the good with the bad. Sanheim will reward you for it

But again look at when the 2nd PP comes out on the ice. Most of the time they finish the PP and then it is even. that is why I don't mind Provorov out there. Because they need to transition to that the even strength play and i want my best defender out there.
If you want Sanheim and Provorov out there ok. but i am not just putting Sanheim alone out there with 4 forwards. - J35Bacher
I think Provy and Sanheim would be perfect for the 2nd unit |
