I think the Flyers could add a decent 3rd pair veteran defenseman relatively cheaply and possibly add a character forward such as Brad Richardson who is a good PKer. As long as the costs are right. Patrick has certainly grown and taken steps forward this year but I don't think it's fair to expect him to produce 2nd line center numbers in the playoffs against top teams. - MJL
The hope is 4 lines of effective production. Since you have a rookie 2nd line center, hopefully you get a little more production from your 4th line center who has a ton of playoff experience. I believe Hexy understands the value of some subtle additions to the roster to give yourself the best possible chance to get to the playoffs and actually do some winning, The Petr Mrazek trade proves that, IMO. There are options with UFA goalies whose compensation to acquire would probably have been less then Mrazek. He went with a slightly better quality goalie while paying a little more. Not breaking the bank more, but I doubt Chad Johnson would have cost 2 conditional draft picks, IMO.

What's effective production? In the regular season the Flyers breakdown has been basically their top players carrying the load and the rest of the team breaking even. Look at the team and individual player goal +/- at 5 on 5. Is that going to change and increase when the games mean more and playoff checking gets tighter and goals harder to come by? The injuries to Elliott and Neuvirth pushed Hextall's hand into making the deal for Mzarek hopefully for more than just this season. I agree that Hextall understands the value of subtle additions but I think this team needs more than that to realistically make a run. |

If I’m Hexy I’m standing pat. Swim with the group that rebounded the season. Or sink

I would love the above mentioned but unless it's trading expiring contract for another expiring contract or a late round pick I'm not that interested. |

I don't know why Nashville was mentioned but I looked at their team stats and was surprised Subban leads the team with only 46 points. They like to spread the wealth. |

Or sink - Just5 He shouldnt be afraid to make a move that helps this team. The flyers will be fine if they move a prospect or a pick. This idea that every prospect we have is going to come up and kill it is unrealistic. We now have a goalie who is very motivated and very talented. In 4 weeks time no one here will want elliott or nuevy in the net.

I agree the Flyers WERE top heavy with goals early on. Moving Jake down, the play of Laughton and Patrick and now they are not a 1 line team. I think they have more 10 goal scorers than anyone in the league. I brought up a Brassard type deal pages ago, it has to be a hockey trade not an all in to win the cup trade. If they cant get a real 3rd pair D who can play up to 2nd pair, keep Lindbolm and add a bottom six.
In the playoffs the Flyers can play Flip and even Lethera. Lethera plays a heavy game, if you cant upgrade him he will do. Weise needs out of the line up |

NAK and Leier over Lehtera.... yeah, I'd agree actually. Unless we're playing a bigger team and need some size out there. |

To this point, from "The Athletic" writer Alexander Applegard:
"Over the last five months, the intense winger has that stock back up to its previous level. Right from the get-go of the AHL season, he has been arguably the Phantoms’ best all-around forward. The scoreboard returns alone — 15 goals and 37 points in 54 games — good for second on the team, may be impressive enough in isolation, but when you delve in more, they really jump off the page.
Aubé-Kubel has produced at that level with almost no power play time. He has not been a regular on either unit over the season, and has one measly power play point as a result. Each and every one of his other 36 points has come at even strength. That mark leads the AHL, with overall league points leader Andrew Miller second with 34. When you consider that the AHL has evolved into a lower-scoring league than the NHL, that figure is even more impressive. His defensive play has also continued to improve, as evidenced by both his team-leading +20 and his underlying metrics.
Broad Street Hockey’s Brad Keffer has been diligently tracking Phantoms games this season, recording Corsi events, scoring chances, faceoff %, penalties and 5v5 goals for and against. Aubé-Kubel’s figures have been remarkable. He has a Corsi percentage of 55.16%, his relative percentage is +6.51, and his raw +124 in terms of Corsi events leads the team comfortably. Across 54 games, the Phantoms have scored an almost unbelievable 49 5v5 goals with him on the ice, while conceding only 30, giving Aubé-Kubel a 5v5 GF% of 62 percent. It is fair to say that he has gone from strength to strength across all areas of the ice, and is a huge reason why the Phantoms have the second-most points in the AHL." |

Yeh I’d rather have Simmonds.
Just think they are a goalie getting hot and a top 4 D man from going on a real run this year. |
