I disagree. Bad luck had little to do with it. Sanheim had issue both in coverage and in reading and anticipation of plays defensively as well as issues winning physical battles in the corners and around the net that others have alluded. I get what you're saying. I'm saying it's wrong.

We have enough of a sample size to know what Manning is and has nothing to do with luck.

Manning is a 3rd pair defenseman. Of course there are going to be goals against. There are also 4 other skaters and a defense partner out there with him.

By all means please do? Better stick, better position, i will quick to point out where he has blown coverage or missed an assignment. Again the difference between the 2 are not much.

what I did say, Sanheim at the end needed to go down, get minutes and get his confidence back.

- wcorvette

In the defensive zone the difference between the two was significant enough to keep Sanheim out of the lineup despite his better puck skills and higher level of talent. Sanheim was frequently beaten wide losing position and had issues with physical battles down low and around the net as well as losing coverage. Now Manning has some of the same issues to be sure but the frequency of them is far less. If the difference between the two is not much then why wouldn't Hakstol and the Flyers want the player with superior puck skills and ability to push play and attack offensively in the lineup? Simply because of comparison ability to defend against NHL forwards in the defensive zone. We all know that Sanheim's ability with the puck is NHL caliber.

The same arguments were present when Hakstol scratched Gostisbehere when his defensive fundamentals broke down and fans cried about it.

Manning is a spot duty 7th. He is not an everyday 6th defenseman.

It's almost easy to forget how great a hockey player G has been throughout his entire career. His production for this year should not be taken for granted and I hope Hexy isnt done trying to improve the roster this yearl

I think he is an adequate depth 6th defenseman. I'd like to see the Flyers improve that spot as well as others.

not 1 fact just your observation, which is fine. Manning gives up the blue to quick and way to slow to notice an odd man rush. He is more physical but still doesn't help him as the forwards are more talented and bigger. If he does get the puck he is not real good at making that first pass, in fact he tends to give possession back to the other team, sure his possession stats will validate.

He thinks he’s too good for us mere mortals and overdeveloped chimpanzees.

That or he ran off and joined the circus. Guess we’ll just never know.

I think my idea works. Because even if you fall in the 2nd round say, next yer you still have a strong lineup, add in more youth and can always move a guy like Brassard or Simmonds if needed to replace picks and prospects used in this deal.

Giroux - Couturier - Konecny
Voracek - Patrick - Simmonds
Weal - Brassard - Lindblom
Raffl - Laughton - Smith

Provorov - Gostisbehere
MacDonald - Hagg
Oduya - Gudas/Manning

Mrazek/Elliott

For me that looks like a solid lineup. Show me in the east a team that doesn't have flaws in the lineup.

I think i would be on board with something like this. This team has progressed and is on that bubble of being a legit contender.I think hextall should think about maybe moving some assets. These 2 1st will be late picks.G and jake are not getting younger. If he added 2-3 pieces i think philly is in the conversation.

Manning's CF% is 50.5 which is solid. You're also wrong that I didn't offer any facts.

Don’t go down the rabbit hole. There’s nothing but pain, misery and the forlorn lost hopes of so many tragic false narratives down there. Save yourself while you can.

LOL I couldn't resist, I'm done though, promised myself 1 volley and stop. If I can't I might have to enter a MJL/Manning rehab center

Advanced stats require context and unless you perform a complete analysis you will misinterpret them. This is most glaring flaw with advanced stats. What people do not do is look at them in proper context. Hockey is a team game, these are individual stats.

Unless they fit my narrative, then I can post them as an indisputable fact, even though I discredit them time and time again when used to strengthen an opposing point.

To add to my rebuttal to your points, in 45 games played, Manning has 24 charged giveaways. In comparison Gudas has 39 charged giveaways in 48 games played.

agreed, they are a starting point and indicator nothing more. when you add them to the eye test they do become more credible if there is a trend
