So it's ok to just play it out and hope for the best in the future?
I know this team wasn't expected to do much this season but I think expectations have changed. Since December this has been one of the best teams in the league. The reason you have this pipeline is to capitalize when chances are there. And I think you can make a smart deal without leveraging your future.
This isn't an Adam Oates trade. - J35Bacher
No it’s not. It’s still pretty awful. They are trading a first and a top defensive prospect for the crown jewel of the trade, Derek Brassard. Yeesh. The dude is ok, not someone I’m trading even a 1st for. Someone else can do that. |

Do you honestly believe Manning is a better player than Sanheim right now? Please answer the question directly. You can use whatever version of "better" you think is appropriate. - mickel25
I would use "more skilled" as opposed to "better." Manning is "better" than Sanheim at:
- getting beat with speed
- getting punched in the face
- being a "hard worker" and/or "team guy"
- having a last name starting with the letter "M" |

Junior hockey and the AHL don't exist in his world - JFlyers00
Sure it does. I remember when Brandon Manning was an AHL All Star!

I don't think it cripples the future, it just seems like a steep price to pay for an upgrade that, in my eyes, is not a significant improvement. - jmatchett383
I wouldn't pay that price either.
I'd be willing to move some significant assets for OEL or EK though. |

If it was OEL, I'd do that. But that's a superstar compared to a really good player. |

Unless Sanheim has made major improvement in areas of his game most likely not. You compared Sanheim to two players who have elite skills and production at the NHL level. - MJL
I think the comparison I made was pretty obvious. Not going to get into a "conversation" about it.
You don't believe in PDO so it's another conversation not worth having. Sanheim can and will do certain things better. He will also have better luck than he saw. Like it or not it happens, and a larger sample size of games will prove that. Pittsburgh and New Jersey are great examples of how that works out (among a few Flyers themselves) |

Even if you're not a fan of statistics, its still painfully obvious via the eye test just how bad Manning is. Like just the other night, a bad pinch by him leads to a 2-on-1 the other way. Guy hits the side of the net with the shot. If that's Sanheim, that's a goal.

That's the problem, you want to use luck as reasoning for the defensive issues that Sanheim had rather than focus on the actual weaknesses in his game. It's just a convenient excuse to use to satisfy a bias rather than making a proper on ice evaluation of a player despite his talent level. I have no doubt that Sanheim is capable of playing in the NHL but first and foremost he has to be able to defend well at the NHL level. Despite popular opinion he was not better than Manning at that when he was with the Flyers which is why he was not playing and ultimately why he was sent down to get playing time. Maybe that has changed since now and then, time will tell.
The comparison you made was pretty poor because the positives that Sanheim brought to the ice did not come close to off setting the negatives which is clearly the case in the overwhelming positive for both Gostisbehere and Voracek.

I guess I just would prefer to capitalize on the season the Flyers are having especially since I don't know what the future holds. Especially since I have the pieces to do it without hurting my future.
The Oilers have been banking on the future for years with all the top picks they have had. I don't want to be that. |

They're also run like a complete circus so not really a good example.

he's constantly out of position, and often gets hemmed into the corners and behind the net. he's just not good. can he make a play? sure. can he shoot the puck? sure. but he's a poor NHL defenseman, and is often on the ice when the puck is in the net. we need to do better there. |

Listen, I should have started with it was a much better trade then I would have come up with.
I agree. They are having one of “those” years. But if we are moving a first and Sam Morin, go bigger than Brassard.
Then we are starting to get into Karlsson range and guys like that. |

They were a win from the conference finals last year if I remember. I just think if you have a chance, and it isn't going to harm your future much you take it.
Just shows that each year is different. This year has been a struggle. |

It was more of a maintenance day. Things I have read and heard have said he'll play tomorrow. Seems like the Flyers are just doing that double secret probation spy stuff. |

Cause McDavid is that good. Chiarelli is pretty terrible. In theory, the Oilers could even have Barzal right now too. Eberle for Strome was pretty (frank)ing dumb too. Plus Kris Russell. God damn. Makes you appreciate Hextall |

I'm fine with him as the #7. Hak doesn't but whatever.
What I don't get though, is even if you do believe Manning is better than Sanheim right now, Sanheim is going to blow him away once he gets acclimated to this league. |
