Yeah, I just watched that, and he used at least four of the top 10 stupid things GM’s say this time of the year

The player that they never managed to acquire, who I always wanted to play with Bure was Alexei Zhamnov

This is why TSN volume is off when they broadcast a VAN game.

if i remember correctly, there's blame on both sides of the vrbatta issue.

vrbatta had a pretty good year the first year here. that was b/c of opportunity (playing with the sedins, minutes, deployment etc.)

as we recall, he was taken off the sedin line basically from the start of his 2nd year and he got moody real quick.

after he left, he said that he was approached for a list in january-ish? he provided the team with a list of teams that would never want or need him. this was an eff you to the team. he pretty much admitted it.

...but he did say that if the team was going to change his deployment and take him off the sedin line, all they had to do was tell him in the off season. he would have gladly asked/accepted a trade out.

so... both sides are to "blame."

I don't agree. Too many things happen month to month in the NHL. Seems strange that he expects to be told which line he'll be playing on in the summer and make assumptions on how the season is going to go etc. He sucked in his second season and to make it more complicated, he was pissy about being a team player when he couldn't score. Entitled to the Sedin line?... coaches never care about those discussions that players had with GM's during the contract negotiation. It's ridiculous for players to still think they have that entitlement once they are a part of a team.

Agreed, also, Vrbata complained about not playing with Horvat so I’m not sure where he is coming from. He didn’t say he wanted to play with the Sedins in 2015, he said Horvat. But whatever supports the narrative

just like tree running to russia, players pout when they don't get what they think they're entitled to.

i think he was sold on coming to van to play with the sedins. he'd pad his stats for a couple years and then cash in. obviously, it didn't go the way he planned.

however, it's not a stretch to say that the team mismanaged the asset. he was on an expiring contract. he started to pout very early on. his play suffered.

if you don't want to trade him early and are waiting for the tdl, at least play him in situations where he'd be attractive for potential trade partners. either that or cut bait when the whining starts. it's not as if they had any plans to re-sign him (at least i hope not.)

oh, so he complained about horvat and not the sedins.

my point still stands that he complained about his linemates.

but keep justifying every move the team makes.

i can't wait until the management team changes and we can hear how you really feel about them.

Just quit making poop up. It’s not Willies fault or the GMs fault that he didn’t want to be traded. He never said he was pouting because he didn’t get to play with the Sedins. Early on in the season he said his preference was to play with Bo. He didn’t want to be traded and that’s his right. Probably because of the baby.

Nonis was the only Canuck GM I saw the overall majority of fans melt down over after a firing... I was on two hockey forums at the time and this was one.... it was the end of the world here. Mark Gauge literally broke into the thread to tell the mob to back off on the 2 people who called for it(me mostly). It was probably the worse case of mob outrage I ever faced on here.

People were ok with Burke and Gillis being fired. Both better GM's than Nonis. Funny how that works. Not really. It's a lot to do with media. They loved Nonis and presented him in a different way. The mood of fans is an easy thing to play with. You can see it switch 180 in the same day in here simply by what media nonsense gets released throughout the day.

I was originally optimistic about Nonis but I was biased because I was building a crush on his cousin Ann who worked at Mayday Malone's Lounge in Surrey and she claimed to know me from the 80's downtown(I couldn't remember). I knew he was getting hired before it was reported that Burke was going to be let go. I guess he was bragging to his family before Burke was informed. Ann and her son moved to Montreal. My friends who ruined all the places I liked to drink by getting into fights finally found my secret watering hole and ruined it for me anyways. So glad to dump those losers.

“Money-wise, probably; term-wise, yes,” Vrbata said. “I was even considering staying in Phoenix for a lot less money than I signed for here, but I was looking for the right situation, the right fit. In today’s NHL, you need to have good players around you if you want to be successful.

“I was looking for a good fit to play with the right players, and when my agent told me Vancouver was interested, right away you start thinking about the Sedins. This seemed like the best option.”
http://www.vancouversun.c...ouver/10206444/story.html

"Vrbata was coming out of a tough situation in Vancouver, where he was promised to play with the Sedins and ended up playing with Bo Horvat. Vrbata is a sniper of a winger and he has to have the right center to score."
https://www.fiveforhowlin...017-comes-home-and-shines

“I don’t think I handcuffed them, but I knew what I was doing,” Vrbata said this week. “I could have given a lot more (options) and I would have moved.

“If I wanted to get traded, I would have been traded.”

But that list, Vrbata said, would have looked entirely different if the Canucks had asked him about a potential trade in June or July, instead of February.

“There would have been a lot more teams interested,” Vrbata said. “If they said, after last season, ‘You know what, next year, we’re going young. We have a 19-year-old centreman for you to play with.

“‘Do you want to do something else?’

“Then I think I would have jumped at — considered something different, even though last year was great.”

Nonis called his shot on Luongo (got away with tampering there) and saw Grabner for more than “qualified” GM’s did. He wasn’t all bad, but certainly not good either...

He did say he wanted to play with Horvat. Maybe he was just towing the company line? No idea. So you think Benning should have stepped in and demanded Willie give him the best ice time and exclusive time with the Sedins? If that’s your opinion that’s fine but I prefer if coaches have autonomy on roster decisions. I can’t recall his deployment but I’m sure he had lots of PP time and top 6 minutes. He sucked and didn’t want to be moved

i've answered your question in the several posts i've made on this issue.

since you obviously fail to grasp it, the point is that there were mistakes made by both sides. put another way, "blame" can be placed on the player and management.

after you said i was "making poop up," i gave you citations. all you have is your pom poms.
