What is WAS doing? Adding as many AHL players before the deadline as possible? and they wonder why they choke every year
- CanuckDon

They just lost a depth defender to waivers, so I think they are just trying to stock up a bit just in case.

Don't mind the strategy but it might not be the best. Waiting til the last minute may do more harm than good. Other GMs might go get someone else similar for maybe cheaper. Snooze you lose.

dman market is stupid right now, what a time to sell a good dman. Too bad Detroit has to deal with Green's NTC, they'll still get a really nice return but it could've been even better.

If Ryan McDonagh goes to TAM or TML the market for Tanev/Edler could get interesting.

problem is he probably wouldn't sign there without it?

i think you pretty much have to accept that if you give guys restrictive NTC's, that you are not getting much in return at any point.

It'd be more interesting if they don't trade McD and wait until the draft imo. Tampa wants to go for it now and Tor probably does too while they have their top guys on reasonable cap hits.

Tor and TB seem to be the most aggressive buyers, you probably want both of them bidding for your guy to get a great return, not just one of them.

for sure, but I doubt any player would be reluctant to go to TB. Great weather, low taxes, can walk around without getting annoyed by fans, SC contender.

Green has also played in Washington before and likely would be open to going back there as well if they're interested.

the funny thing is that Vanek is the top point scorer among ALL trade bait list/rental players, other than Karlsson, but the odds of him moving are slim.

I really don't see whats so horrible with his past playoff numbers...
the last time he made it - YES, 0 goals in 10 games
but before that
5 goals in 17 games
5 gs, 7gms
2gs, 3 gms
6gs, 16 gms

The same people said we'd get no more than a 4rth or 5th but most likely nothing for Hansen and Burrows because nobody wants them.

yup. i suspect he ends up in tampa.

and that tampa won't have to pay much .... conditional 2nd (turns into a first for reasons) and a couple b-prospects/ahl lifers.

I could see that happening, but I feel like they prefer a shutdown type of dman since they already have the firepower.

TB sure like their Swedish mentors, especially canuck Swedish defensemen.

I think SY has a thing for them.

I'll take it! I think if they retain 30-50% of the contract they may get more, and I really hope they do.

I just explained above, the reasons I could see Vbrata NOT being moved by Benning. I honestly don't remember Benning saying he had no offers for Vrbata, but it wouldn't surprise me if he said that POST TDL after getting heat for not being able to move him either. I don't really know why we are even discussing this, we are talking about Vanek and now, not 2 or 3 years ago.
- Codes1087

Vrbada apparently got no offers because he listed teams that were not making the playoffs and not looking for a rental. He did not want to be moved. This is one of the versions coming out of the media for what it's worth.
