I just explained above, the reasons I could see Vbrata NOT being moved by Benning. I honestly don't remember Benning saying he had no offers for Vrbata, but it wouldn't surprise me if he said that POST TDL after getting heat for not being able to move him either. I don't really know why we are even discussing this, we are talking about Vanek and now, not 2 or 3 years ago. - Codes1087

JB gets offered a 6th, best offer. Take it? Will his bosses be happy with that? Cue the presser |

How many times, or how often do you have to take a stance in order to get fair value? Every other year? Every other trade? - 1970vintage
Vanek was a UFA till the end of summer. And only the bottom feeding Wings/Canucks were interested. Ducks kicked tires on him apparently but who knows what they offered him, if anything.
How exactly is a guy who could barely generate interest as a cheap UFA after scoring 20 goals supposed to suddenly be a hot commodity at the TDL just 6 months later?
Benning trading him for a 4th or 5th isn’t going to make him some sort of a laughing stock, Vanek isn’t Hamhuis. He’s a one dimensional soft winger not a #4 dman. |

I am not sure who brought up Hamhuis and Vrbata, I just said they were missed opportunities from what I can remember. Matthias and Richardson also come to mind. I just want Vanek gone, and I don't really care too much about the return. I can't see a more opportune time to deal a player, on such a enticing contract, like what Vanek is on right now. |

Still upset over the Vrbata signing? He was pretty amazing his first season. - CanuckDon
NO upset me not, signing never liked, but one with the flow I am. Not sure if I would characterize his first season as amazing however. |

can't be more disappointed than seeing a 2 million AAV UFA, having a good statistical year, walk in free agency after placing bottom 5. |

Uh, huh. What I was asking was “hasn’t Jimbo already made his stand, earned the respect of his colleagues, and can now make fair trades”... |

Yeah, he has. I’m just adding to your point
Trading Hamhuis for a 5th would have been a joke. Not Vanek. |

"Well you know, I was waiting by the phone until like the last minute and that's all we were offered" Francesco threw his hands up in the Pizzeria and said "Take the 6th" |

I know, hopefully it’s just posturing but I think JB is more straight up than a guy who uses media leaks as an asset lol
Hopefully some desperate team offers a 3rd...ugh
I see nothing wrong with flipping a guy you signed right before camp for a 4th/5th.
People make fun of us for overvaluing our players, looks like people are doing it again, hopefully our GM isn’t. |

If I were JB, and let’s say it was Boston who was interested but they weren’t willing to pay a “fair” price. I would trade him to the team that was directly in competition (Tor) for literally nothing just to say hey (frank) you. - a conditional 7th round pick. If they win the cup it’s a 7th, if not there is no compensation... |

If Vrbata really had no trade offers, from his contract year in Vancouver, I would imagine his 5 million AAV (while pro-rated) would have been too much for teams to take on, but that does not mean the Canucks could not have made it work and retained. I also don't know if I buy the media speculation that Hamhuis deal was in placed by FA nixed due to owner beef. Fact is we won't really know.
Keeping Vanek is the wrong call, plain and simple. We are not going to make the playoffs, he was signed for 1 year, 2 mill, as a UFA for the reason that he thought he could showcase his skills on a bottom feeder team, and hope to land on a contender. Keeping him will be a mistake past the TDL. Like I said before, if management want to talk with him and his agent in the summer about another contract, so be it, but keeping him, IMO, would be a mistake. - Codes1087
Vrabata gave Benning a list of bottom feeders, why would a bottom feeding team spend futures on an old player having a poor season?
Hamhuis dawdled on waiving until Dallas took Russell instead, then offered a 5th for him.
Vanek should be worth as much as Nash, posturing for now because he's getting low balled.
Poker.
Sell him now for a fifth or wait until the last days and have a 50 percent shot at a 3rd our wait until the last minute and have a 15 percent shot at a 2nd.
How ling would you hold them until you fold them? |

A Tanev deal and good draft this year would be huge. I really hope he's not hurt as bad as they say and just want him to stay healthy in case a deal goes down. |

Vanek and Nash being the same would be a fun argument, not sure I would lean towards Vanek over Nash, but that's just my opinion.
I would hold on to all my UFA/RFA's till deadline day. That includes Granlund, Baertschi, Stecher, Pouliot, Vanek, etc. I would take calls on all of them, gauge the market and interest. I am not one for the theatrics of waiting till a few minutes before its over before making a deal, but drive up the value by waiting till the last day.
