You know if Grabner goes there, knowing our luck, he will re-sign there for three years - airjan23
Grabner said some weeks back that he enjoys playing here, & had expressed his willingness to delay new contract talks until once their season ends, if that was management's preference. Why trade him just for the sake of him becoming a UFA this summer, and creating the same lineup hole X 2 (for Grabby's much greater offensive contributions) in comparison to the case when Hagelin was dealt?
As the amount of time until the deadline dwindles further, so will Grabner's and Nash's trade return values, unless a team becomes desperate to acquire either, due to a possible sudden extended injury to one of their own related style position players. Even worse, & especially in the case of Grabner, what if he should sign a new extended deal with any other Eastern Conference competitor?
In contrary, Gorton holds the cards with McDonagh still having 1 more year remaining on his contract, allowing him to wait until next season's trade deadline should his need be until then to receive the right offer.
Creating key lineup holes now will cost more in the future to replace them. So in some cases as with Grabner and McDonagh, why create those holes now? |

Because the Rangers need young talent, Grabner is likely to bring back a first round pick, and if he really likes it that much in New York, he can sign with the Rangers in July. It's really that simple. Not trading Grabner at the deadline would be a monumentally stupid move.

Antti Rantta is a pending UFA but the Coyotes don't intend moving him at the deadline. The hope is to begin contract talks after the deadline at some point to get him re-signed - jimbo83
There goes my first choice as to who Hank's backup should be next season, if not also for the balance of this season, to prevent him from wearing down even greater to the point of sustaining an injury heading into the way earlier than expected off season.
I would contact Toronto as to possibly acquiring their minor league system goalie, (& former Avs goalie), Calvin Pickard, for reasons I mentioned here earlier today. |

Strategically it seems very smart that Holden is the first to be traded. If you can set the market as a 3rd round pick for him than Nash, Grabner and McDonagh will bring in quite a bit more. - jimbo83
I agree somewhat with Vally's feeling that Holden traded first from here, could lead to acquiring more later on for Nash ???, Grabner ???, and McDonagh***.
***But, I can only agree with him on that as to the case with McDonagh, since he is the only d'man of those three, with the availability of forwards being of course much greater on the market always. |

But there is always the chance that another team may possibly ink him for greater annual money & a longer term, than the Rangers cap will permit. Just because he said he enjoys playing here with the Rangers in New York, doesn't mean that he may not like playing anywhere else. Hopefully, should he sign "anywhere else", it will not be with an Eastern Conference competitor, and especially not in the Metro. Div., and even worse, with one of the two other locals. |

All those things can be true if they didn't trade him and just lost him to free agency this summer. Given where this team is at right now, I just disagree that there should be any question that he should be traded, especially given his value.
And believe me, I really, really like Grabner in a Rangers uniform.

We are not in a position to pass up an extra (potential) 1st round pick if we can make a deal to acquire it. That's all. It's not complicated. |
