Kenny would sooner trade himself than trade his Love Child, Jimmy Howard. I wouldn't be surprised if he announced a brand new contract extension for Howard today. 5 years/$30 million.

Islanders seem like a perfect fit for Howard at the moment.

Halak has not been a very consistent goalie for the Islanders - He is a UFA at the end of the season. I think it's safe to say that Griess will not be their starter next year. Howard could also be a good boost to try secure a wildcard spot for the Islanders. Their schedule for the month of March is pretty tough - at least they have a streatch of home games in March.

If this trade were to happen Detroit would likely have to eat Howards contract this year which is no big deal.
