IF Karlsson is being traded, I see 3 options for some reason: Tampa, Dallas, or Pittsburgh. If it's at the draft (which is most likely if he's not staying in Ottawa), here's what I would look at:

To Dallas or Tampa
Alex Burrows
Bobby Ryan [5.75]
Erik Karlsson

To Ottawa
Martin Hanzal
Miro Heiskanen
Julius Honka
2018 1st [top 10 protected]

OR

To Ottawa
Ryan Callahan
Mikhail Sergachev
Connor Ingram
Cal Foote OR Slater Koekkoek
2018 Conditional 1st (if lighting make cup finals)
conditional pick as well if Lighting win cup

Could add zack smith + alex kilron

*Sens should try and land Dahlin, target UFAs

I wouldn't do either of these trades to be honest. they would have to throw in way more. If we are trading Karlsson we better be getting a huge over payment that will set us up for decades.

Plus if we are trading with Tampa, Hedman better be coming to Ottawa.

Adding Ryan to any trade for Karlsson would be a nightmare, and negate any meaningful return they could get for him.

It'd save melnyk a lot of money though, even if a big contract had to come back.

I Don't see them trading Hedman at this point. They're setting themselves up to win, they wouldn't trade one of their best players. It'd be young guys, prospects picks.

I doubt they'd even trade Sergachev.

MAYBE Point, even then though, unlikely. Tampa with Karlsson would be lethal, but only if they keep the main core that makes them so good to begin with.

That's my point. Tampa doesn't really need Karlsson they are good enough to win a cup as is. Plus, Ottawa is only going to trade Karlsson for two reasons.

#1. He asks way to much money and wont negotiate.
#2. The return is so good Ottawa would be absolutely stupid not too.

I understand what your saying, Erik Karlsson is so undervalued right now. This guy 8 months ago was in the top 2-3 guys in the world with a hockey stick.

That said, if the team isn't going to contend and won't resign him, I'd look at what's the best out there. I'd auction him.

Tampa has TONS of prospects and young players playing huge.

The goalie is desperately needed; Serg a solid top 4D already and likely a top pairing for a long time. Then you add in the first, and get Ryan's $ off the books (I think Challahan is less $ and bigger cap hit.

Not like it happens, but look at Shea Weber's actually $. That would be a pretty sweet guy to have in Ottawa but again not a fit

I think Tampa is loaded and the fav; but at the same time they got to go through PITS and then NSH or WIN waiting on the other side. The window for them is to win now!

I still have a weird feeling this is Washington's year. But I also feel like Philly could be a very quiet underdog. But Tampa is certainly the Fav.

I think the teams that will likely give the most for Karlsson are in the west.

I also don't think fans would never forgive PD if he traded Karlsson. He might as well resign.
