Maybe early to think about the off season, but I'd like to see all of the "core" workout with the ELC players.
Toews can work with all the defense-first group.
Kane can work with the scorers
Keith can work with the puck moving faster defenders
Seabs can work with the stay at home, bigger defenders (if we have any besides Murphy)
Crow works with Forsberg

Agreed, although each of them spends time in various cities with different trainers in the offseason. That's one thing we lost with Hossa/Hjalmarsson, having experts in practice for guys to copy off of.

Getting an elite defensive forward (Backlund, Stone, Zajac, etc.) could help show our younger guys how to shut other lines down. Hossa's range and puck-winning ability were absolutely second to none. Only guy who i've seen more impossible to win a puck battle from is Malkin when he's pissed off or Getzlaf in the playoffs. Really miss Hossa on this team.

In the past he had some touch to his game, Scored some on his own, made some nice passes.

.At this stage, he doesnt drive the offense on his own. To get 40 points, he needs Kane sniping and him getting 2nd assists (hence the passenger comment).

He's still a nice player, and has value, but he will be more a 30 points player, lucking into points rather than a true offensive threat. I'd wish him the best and move him to a team that can use him.

On this roster, he's just another guy.

- gnosox1986

He doesn't get a ton of assists or show up on the scoresheet as much cause he's either screening the goalie or doing some of the dirty work behind the goal line.

Til he got hurt, he was leading the team in goals, or among the leaders anyway. He's still got decent touch around the net and can create some offense...that shot he beat Holtby with the other night was a pretty nice snipe.

I agree with the statement at 29, he's not getting any better, but he's been about a half PPG player wherever he's been; and it's not like he's always had a guy like Kane playing with him.

I suppose it depends on where he ends up, 2C or 3C.

I don't have a problem trading him if there's a decent offer out there and the plan is to make Schmaltz the 2C...1C...whatever.

Justin you mention trading Hartman for a young dman with top 4 potential I would do it but who is the dman coming back any names come to mine that you can think of?

Ceci
Trouba(unlikely)
Morrisey(maybe)
Fleruy
Morin

These be ones I be looking at if I was trading Hartman it also depends on how the other gm's view Hartman.

He certainly isn't hurting the team, but is he a fit going forward if he isn't centering Kane? He does some things others on the team don't like net front presence. He's good on the PK too. Big body. Seems like a good locker room guy. His salary fits his play, but does his salary and play fit the team needs going forward? It's really hard to say. I don't want him gone but I can see how they could add a different kind of player who might add more to the current roster than he does.

Carolina has a glut of very promising young dmen. I'd give a pretty penny for any of Hanafin, Fleury, Slavin, Pesce.
Faulk has seen his role diminish with the emergence of those four, and TVR rounds it out as the 6th guy. I don't know what the Hawks could offer other than Duclair, Anisimov, Hartman.

Interesting:

The @MapleLeafs have traded forward Eric Fehr to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a seventh-round draft pick in the 2020 NHL Draft.

They further reduce their LTIR spending by $975K and as a result increase their accessible Salary Pool cap space to almost $6.5M ahead of Monday's trade deadline.

Leafs are a team to watch.

They are in the market for a shutdown D with playoff experience and would like to add a Centre (like they did with Boyle last year).

Fehr only costed a 7th rounder and SJ was indeed looking for a 4th line C.

This is a cheaper option than Tommy Wingels but you get what you pay for. Fehr has been in the AHL most of the year.

Which means TOR will make the deal with OTT to get those guys. TOR has five guys on expiring contracts to choose from to send back to Murray.

Seabrook with $2M retained? Wish we still had Hammer to trade for a haul instead of for Murphy.

Hey Leafs you want Anisimov and Murphy for some picks/prospects?

I really don’t get this from the Sharks perspective, it was a good move for the Leafs!

With all the troubles this team has on D, it makes really makes you appreciate the simple/effective game TVR had. And now the biggest question going into the off season is CC. Is the guy going to be healthy again? Vertigo is nasty business. This team from top to bottom is a giant ??????

Anything is possible, but I don't see the Hawks retaining any salary. They'll finally be free of Panarin's performance bonuses next season, but they'll still have Hossa's contract that is realistically not 100% usable/effective. I doubt the club wants any more dead cap space.

Do you think Hossa is coming back? If he doesn't, do the Hawks have to get the clearance to LTIR him every season?

We don’t actually know that, all we really know is:

Coyotes general manager John Chayka said. "We worked through some things, tried a lot of different approaches in a lot of different ways. As things seemed to evolve, it kept coming back that it was probably best for a change of scenery for both sides. So, I've been trying to find a fit that made sense for Anthony and made sense for us. I felt this was our best opportunity.

A lot of players have one or more skill in their skill set. Some success here and there and they get to the NHL. Here you need to have the correct attitude and mental approach. If Duclair was such a great prospect, why did two teams choose to punt. I suggest Duclair MAY fall into the category of "liimited" and I mean he just is to some degree a problem child. His former teams know how to. couch that in a subtle way. Especially in light of no one is or wants to somehow twist things and call unfair treatment

So Rick's idea does have merit. Let him show he wants it. I suspect that Duclair might have a scorer's mentality yet does not want to work hard enough often enough away from the puck Besides, this team needs a power forward and some gritty players to change out some of the current cast. And even if things work out next fall for Duclair, ultimately you may have to decide upon him or Sincula. You need to balance out the type of players on a roster

correct me if I am wrong...didnt panik have a 2 yr term on his contract (this year and next) and Duclair ONLY has this year committed. So the upside to Hawks is Duclair could be a good 'find' with a 30 game try out - we should be able to figure it out by end of season - if he is a no go, cut bait and no commitment to next season. We knew what we had in Panik and if we held on to him, we were still on the hook for next season regardless. This deal was 100% win for Hawks - where did i go wrong?

Interesting stat during the game last night.... Schmaltz leads the league in takeaways. Take that for what it is worth but he shows so much promise. Kaner needs to get him in the gym this summer.

That's my perspective as well. And the fact that he's been healthy scratched lately is either because the team has made up its mind already with not retaining him after this season or they need to prioritize other forwards who are being showcased for potential trades.

Gudbranson is more effective than any RD the Hawks have on the roster this year, IMO. He could play with Keith and I think they would excel. Better contract than 7, too.

I was thinking about how handy it would have been to have TVR around to shore up the D a bit. He was under appreciated in my opinion. Made a lot of blocks and broke up a lot of plays with his stick.
