Well carry on...gotta head to son's hockey practice. I'm just edgy enough to where the kids may get a workout.

There is no need to retain salary at all if Filpula is include din that trade. That moves the salary they need to keep AA. I doubt retaining anything would be in play there.
- JRoenick97

Have to remember that AA salary would be retained for the duration of his contract. (Like the Hawks can afford to do that.)
I don't know what JJ was smoking this morning but if he is going to come up with stuff like this he will lose any credibility he had.

Hasn't Stan learned his lesson from a player named Morin already?

Maybe Hartman thinks he is a top 6 forward? He did spend all off-season with Kane and Schmaltz. I don't think the Hawks few him as that. Wouldn't surprise me if he wasn't happy with the 4th line minutes and benchings.
- bhawks2241

Then how about finish some damn scoring chances.

I remember early in the season after that hot start(essentially just the Penguins game opening night) he simply couldn't put the puck in the net no matter how many golden opportunities he was given by Kane or Schmaltz.

Idk who he thinks he is. Seems like he's got a snobby attitude and thinks he better than he really is, and that he can just go and whine about it when things dont go his way instead of busting his ass off to become better. Good riddance bottom 6er. Have fun not making anyone else top 6 either.

I can just see the gleam in the Philly GM eyes when his secretary goes:

"The guy who traded you two number 2 draft picks for Kimo Timmonen is on Line 2"

This year's TDL is Stan's sympathy tour.

"Remember when I gave you Danault for garbage"

"Remember when I gave you two 2nd rounders for garbage"

"Remember when I gave you Hammer for garbage"

Whoever said Sanheim and Morin were lanky... Morin is not lanky. The guy is simply enormous. 6'7" with some muscle on his frame. Whenever he fights it lasts about 4 seconds before the refs have to save a guy's life.
- ObeseOprah

I believe this discussion started when it was noted that Sanheim although he is 6' 3" only weighs 180 lbs.

Panarin is head and shoulders above any Hawk player except Kane. He was when he was here and he is now. Scoring at a 65 point clip with no help whatsoever in Columbus is not that far away from his 74 points last year when he played with superstar Kane. His performance this year is making Bowman who got destroyed in that trade look like a complete jackass as predicted. Making everything much worse is the fact that Bowman failed miserably to replace Panarin's point production and presence on Kane's line thereby hurting Kane's point production too. Pissed off Kane does not deserve this slap in the face treatment and neither do the Hawks. Is there any doubt this malfeasance contributed more than any other issue to a one way ticket to last place.

when you are cap strapped...you can't have everything and fill every hole....no he did not get destroyed in that trade, that trade had context and good reasons for it:

1. hossa was gone; needed a big forward to replace him
2. panarin didn't fit the long term costs and cap structure
3. Saad for panerin satisfied both 1 and 2
4. they could not have both or meet stated needs at the same time

unfortunately saad had a down/bad year as did a host of others; with forsberg the the jury is still out...he may develop into a solid 1b...they need to find this out...

easy to take armchair GMimg pot shots when you ignore the entire back ground and rationale for the trade...

panerins points got replaced to some degree by smaltz and ADB

Correction: a second-round pick in the 2015 NHL Draft and a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2016 draft.

I made that comment. While he does look lanky from my perspective (eye of the beholder--not saying you're wrong), I didn't necessarily equate that to being weak. I did wonder if he has some jam to his game. Good to know that he actually uses his size unlike the 6'4" 230 lb Dahlstrom. I like Morin even more now!

Dcat is on pace for 30g as a rookie. Think about that. Yeah he is small but 30g scorers don't grow on trees. Especially 19 and 20 year old ones. He hasn't exactly been playing top line minutes or with the Hawks best players all year either.

Well you just gave Vandermeer23 a huge woody. Can he play Top 4 minutes in the NHL playing actual hockey? Remains to be seen.

Me too, I’m in, let me get some Viagra first, I would like a guy like Morin, But hopefully Bowman won’t be that stupid to trade those two guys for the rest of the garbage, this is probably just a rumor.

I checked out Morin's stats. It looks like he has only played a hand full of games in the NHL and very few anywhere this season. Must have had a serious injury.

Yes now is a our chance to return the favor to Hextall, he made a good deal with Timonen. Teams' with a glut at one position are more likely to undervalue that position, so we could possibly get a rather promising young defender in exchange for eating Philly cap and giving them a playoff roster player (AA, Franson, Wingels, Bouma). AA could replace Simmonds in front of the net on the PP while Wayne is recovering.

Right now the Hawks could make a very savvy move: open Crawford's LTIR space to eat the month left on a poopty contract for another team. Team's like Toronto, Boston, Philly, Anaheim, Pitt could all be looking to move an expiring heavy contract so they can bring in a better rental or roster player. Hawks can supply the Arizona value for the last month of the season.

How does anyone know what the cash situation might be two years from now? There will likely be many both planned and unforeseen transactions between now and then and many opportunities to raise money for a mega asset like Panarin. Example Hossa money, trades, retirements, bigger salary cap, who knows, they might have Crawford money, etc etc. For this reason IMO the cash strapped excuse is pure propaganda. I don't buy it one bit. Working these things out is a basic part of any gm's job.

Agree. Flyers and Canes would be good dance partners given their depth of D prospects and limited spots.

Is there a team with good organization depth of bottom-6 centers, preferably 3C? They should be on Bowman's list, too.

Toronto: Moore, Bozak are booth capable centers. Bozak is phenomenal on faceoffs. Leafs also have a logjam of young prospect forwards, figuring who could be a steal is beyond my expertise.

Bash? I said his name. That was it, but this is a hugely important time for Stanley. He has to hit on his moves. HAS TO! Need to reload and move salary. If moving AA requires us to eat part of his salary then that is a big no. If we get a legit D prospect back and have to carry VF for the final games? Fine, trade AA.
- z1990z

You hash tagged his name to a really poopty deal, implying it was a deal he'd make. You can pretend you were just saying his name, but come on, just like 50% of this board you're saying he makes garbage moves ll the time. We get it. Stan sucks, Toews isn't good, Seabrook is slow, etc.

Stan: Hey Ron, I’m interested in one of your young defensive prospects, Travis Sanheim. Is he possibly available?

Ron: He might be Stan, but we might be willing to make Samual Morin available.

Stan: What would it take if we were interested in one of them?

Ron: While I have you on the phone I’m wondering if Artem Anisimov is available or possibly Ryan Hartman?

Stan: They might be but I’m really interested in Sanheim or what’s his name oh yeah Morin.

Ron: Would you consider Filppula and Raffi for Anisimov and Hartman?

Stan: Maybe but like I said I’m really interested in either Sanheim or that Morin guy. What would it take to get one of them?

Ron: If you’d be willing to retain half of Anisimov’s salary we could probably throw in Morin.

Stan: I’ll have to talk to John about that and get back to you Ron, thanks.

Stan is average. Toews has fallen off a cliff in play and you cannot deny that. Seabs is a warrior and lost whatever step he had. And I never said Stan makes garbage moves all the time. I was for the Saad trade and thought Murphy would be a younger D to replace a worn out Hammer.

For whatever reason, this team fell apart this year.

So here’s what’s in JJ’s story:

From Chicago: Artem Anisimov and Ryan Hartman for SOME COMBINATION, BUT LIKELY NOT ALL OF Val Fillipula, Michael Raffl and either Samuel Morin OR Travis Sanheim. The Hawks might also have to retain some of Anisimov’s salary. No idea whether AA has been asked to waive, but his NMC expires 7/1 anyway.

- walleyeb1

Stan better get both Morin and Sanheim for aa and Hartman if we need to take fillipula to make the salary work two top 9 maybe top 6 forwards for a possible top dman.

Holy shart!,I wouldn’t put it past Bowman to Be that stupid to follow that exact script! Which really worries me moving forward if we do happen to get a pick between number five and 10 and possibly Brady Tkachuk is available. This is where I wish we had a hands-on owner. Someone to put their two cents into it because I think Bowman is going to screw this up on all aspects.
