Funny, the local beat guy already said that.

I’d be fine with Grabner, but I wouldn’t give up much at this point. It’s a buyers market, so JR shouldn’t acquiesce to unreasonable deals.

Someone no one is talking about from the Rags for a 4C position is David Desharnais....I hope GMJR doesn't go that route...
- MattStrat

Why not? He’d be a major upgrade at 4C.

Because I'm d!ck teased for a certain Senator....nothing else will do...Brassard or Bust!! haha

DD would be an upgrade over Rowney, no doubt, and he's very cheap. I wouldnt hate it but I like Letestu better.

I’d take DD over Letestu.

But yes, I’d prefer Brassard. Hopefully if JR picks up Grabner it doesn’t affect whatever trade chips are necessary to pick up Brass

Yeah, I'm not trading a first for him, but I could live with a 2nd.

Not sure how credible the report is, but apparently our rejected offer for Brassard was Sprong, Kuhnhackl and a 6th/5th. That seems pretty low to me, but I’d definitely rather up the anti on the pick and send over a lesser prospect.

If that was a real offer then kudos to JR for brining them into reality about this market. Clearly that’s not enough, but that has to send a message about what to expect.

The Pens don’t have a 3rd this year, so
IMO that 2nd should be reserved for a bigger deal.

I wouldn't think twice about that....but it does seem like a bit of a low ball. If its true, Im proud of GMJR for trying it.

I could see the Sens, who have a sh!tty low internal cap, wanting Sheary and Hunwick because both players make about the same as Brassard alone...and they also just lost Dion, a d-man.

I’d offer Sheary, Kuhnhackl and a conditional 4th that becomes a 2nd if the Pens make it to the cup.

I hate conditional picks because we technically lose the ability to trade both picks. Maybe if it is a 2018 4th that becomes a 2019 2nd

I have no idea if my buddy made this up but he just said to me yesterday he heard we offered Sheary, Sprong and a late pick for brassard. I havent been able to find anything on either rumour though.

Never mind. He said it was on a radio sports talk show and they said that’s what Ottawa is probably expecting a final deal to look like.

If that’s the case good on JR for starting negotiations with Kuhnhackl. That way when we raise up to Sheary maybe we can dumb the prospect down a bit and hold onto Sprong.

The thing for me with getting Brassard now is to keep as many cheap young wingers as possible so we can fit Rust and Sheahan extensions under the cap this offseason. I think extending Sheahan for 3/4 years is pretty damn important. He'll be the 4th C on depth charts after Crosby, Malkin, and Brassard, but then after next year, Brassard's contract is up, and he's of "one last pay day" age. We need to keep Sheahan on this team as a post-Brassard contingency, either as our actual 3C, or as a trade chip to get a 3C. I don't want a repeat of the debacle that was the first half of this season and scrambling to find a 3C in a seller's market.

So I am very hesitant to give up Sprong at this moment. Any other prospect that's further away, sure, even if its Gusstavson, who I don't want to give up at all.

I understand all of that but I'm still not sold on Sprong. I'd let him go for Brassard no sweat.

I would not mind that type of package for Brassard. As I stated earlier in this forum. I don't want to give up Sheahan in a trade for him (especially since Brassard isn't used on the PK). I could see us trading players to open up cap space for Brassard (aka Sheary and Hunswick). I think JR is crafty and could land Brassard and Grabner and not have to give up a first for either.

When the Pens were playing crappy hockey, I would have never considered dealing Sprong. Now that they're killing it, I agree.......adding Brassard gives us unmatched center depth for two playoff runs.

I still prefer to move Gustavsson if given the choice.
