I'm cooling on the Kane idea. Guy seems to have a lot of run-ins with his teammates. I'd trade Sheahan, Sheary and Gus/2nd for Brassard. I don't want to do it, but I think it's enough of an upgrade to make it worthwhile.
Then try to find a cheap 4th......maybe Dom Moore or Dasharnais? How 'bout Dom Moore for Hunwick? Could we get Kruger at 50% retained out of Carolina? The Cullen rumors haven't gone away.
I still want Pouliot out of Buffalo. - madmike71
That is at best lateral short term and definitely an overpayment long term. We can't give up two roster players for Brassard. The hit to depth wouldn't be worth it. |
|
|
|
Oh damn, he is an RFA. Yup, makes sense now. Not really interested in moving Sheahan. Getting Brassard for Sheahan is a lot more lateral than getting Brassard for Sheary. - Victoro311
Would you do Sheary for Pageau straight up? |

doesnt suck, hes a solid Vet and defensive C. Its just the Kids future. Avs have rookie natural Cs in Compher, Jost, Kerfoot, Kamenev, Toninato. Bowers in the prospect pool too.
Gotta make room for the Kids to start taking C spots, cant shift them all the the Wing - DDM-Coga
As Victoro mentioned, you guys would need to retain 50% of his salary to make it work for us. Only way I see it happening.

Not at all. Pageau would be a 4C on this team behind Sheahan. Sheary is still incredibly valuable to this team despite his struggles. |

Yes to Pouliot. He could be had for cheap. Perhaps Hunwick can go in this deal. - Barnaby36
Hunwick was pretty good in his recent two games. I was quite surprised he played so well against a heavy team like Cbus. |

I assume they would. Team has done that in the past and aren't afraid to eat salary.
They probably would take on a cap dump from the Pens too. |

I would. Pageau is alright just like Sheary but we need an alright C and not an alright Wing right now. |

Parlaying his recent strong performances into offloading him for an expiring contract would be a huge win for us. We need to clear that contract. |

50% retention with the Hunwick contract and an asset of legit going back is when I'm good with trading for Sods as long as its not a 1st, Sprong, or Gustavsson. Not sure why Colorado would take all that back if they're not getting something pretty valuable, so I just don't know if there's a deal here. |

The Avs would almost certainly have to retain a good portion of Soderberg's remaining two-plus years at $4.75 million cap hit to trade him to a team like Pitt., unless someone like Olli Maata came back - or a guy like Hornqvist |

The thing is Ruhwedel can probably do the things Hunwick does for 1/3 of the price. Pouliot has his value too: big guy with speed/Skill. We need to give something to get a good thing. |

oh yeah the guy is looney tunes when it comes to gaging trade value of guys. He stuck in a different era.
But he has legit sources when it comes to trade rumours with the team. When he hears teams are calling about Player X from the Avs, its credible |

not missed, was the whipping boy of a very bad D Core in the Joe Sacco coached era. But they were asking him to do way too much bc of a poorly built team. |

Brassard is an upgrade over Sheahan....undoubtedly. Sheary is completely replaceable by Simon, ZAR or Sprong. I don't value him nearly as highly as you. Sheary on his entry level contract is very valuable. Sheary at 3 mil....not so much. Gus wouldn't get his shot in Pittsburgh for probably 4 years. I don't see it as a long term over payment. I think it's fair. |

Yea Brassard is an upgrade over Sheahan but I'm not moving a center for a center. Yes I'd move Sheary, Sprong and a pick or Gus's for him but not Sheahan. |

I would. Pageau is alright just like Sheary but we need an alright C and not an alright Wing right now. - Barnaby36
Exactly. I think Sheary is the superior player. I'm not even a huge Pageau fan. But a quick an easy way to address a weakness from a strength. Same cap hit and term.
I'd be a little concerned about $3M for a 4th line Center. And I'm not sure why OTT would do it...but I don't really know why they're doing anything they're doing. |

If you can upgrade the 3c and upgrade the 4c (because anybody is better than Roweny) I don't see what the objection could be. You would certainly need to know you have a deal in place to bring in the 4c before parting with Sheahan.
I like Sheahan, but I don't view him as a piece I wouldn't move if I knew I was getting a better player back for that position. |

Idk, Chemistry and guys working on certain teams is a thing and Sheahan looks like he's fitting right in. Its a moot point anyways because I doubt he's going anywhere Ruth likes his depth.IMO we can trade for Brassard if we wanted to without including him is all I'm saying. |

Can't pay a 4C north of two mil and feel good about it, and Sheary can play up and down the lineup. Pageau can't play above the bottom 6. |

Yea that's why we shouldn't and most likely won't go at Soderberg. Those years are ridiculous at that price. |

For psychological purposes just imagine Pageau as our 3rd C and Sheahan in the 4th C then lol
Anyway Domi is growing on me. We should go after the 22 yo C/Wing. |

I don't think I'd include Sheahan either. He's a guy I want to keep around long-term while Brassard is a guy I'd love for the next 2 years but wouldn't want to give his next contract to.
Completely agree on Sheary and Gustavsson. Not sure what their interest level in Sheary would be, but they are definitely sniffing for a high end goalie prospect. I feel like the goalie prospect and the 1st are the key parts and I'm willing to part with both. |
