Hey Justin any chance we can dump 82 on SJ. Brutal tonight
- glennjpawlak22

Oesterle has looked like he's lost a lot of confidence the last 10 games or so. However, the Hawks like him and he's cheap again next year.

He skates really well and has a nice offensive game, but needs to really hone his craft on the defensive side.

Good write up Justin... but truth be told that does nothing for this team... 4th-7th round picks will not help this team... bottom line is this... and it’s not going to happen at the deadline... but BLOWMAN needs to make due and do some heavy lifting and get a couple of these contracts off the books... he f***** up... know he has to dig himself out of the hole... that’s the magic you need to see....not rebuild but reload
- bigfly46

Thanks bigfly.

Hard to argue with you on that. There are just so many challenges and behind the scenes roadblocks with dealing those big 4 contracts.

I'll have some upcoming theories on what may/should happen this offseason.

Murphy's $3.85M hit is too much cap for the third pair, much less half of it. He wasn't brought here to play 5/6 minutes.
- Davewn

Good point.
Step up and address the issue, Stan Bowman
Murphy and Q do.not appear on the same page.
Or is that team

kempny for 3rd...wingles aint gonna bring much more...a ufa; i think he might come back here...
- bogiedoc

You're right, he shouldn't bring back much in terms of picks.

However, maybe a couple of these moves aren't just about picks. They could look at guys needing a change of scenery or adding someone for Rockford with some of these moves.

For example, if SJ wanted Wingels, maybe the Hawks ask for the young Swede, Marcus Sorensen in return. He's struggling to get into the SJ lineup, so maybe he's a nobody or maybe he's worth a shot like Panik was.

And he’s the only defenseman who shoots quick wrister from the blue l8ne, instead of the long Juan Marichal wind-up slapper, most of which get blocked.

i doubt you are getting a guy like that for bottom 6 rental UFA...

unfortunate to see him go...one of the few guys who plays hard every game

Plus these additional picks are extra assets that can be used at the draft. Maybe a 3rd and mid-level prospect becomes a 2nd (for example).

panarin and hammer for Murph and SAAD looks like a 35/65 loss on our part. trading Murph at this point makes no sense. Need him to work a off season and see what happens next year.

But if Hino and Dahlstrom are out 2 best players we also have problems behind the bench. On one side I credit Bowman credit to get a 3rd for kempny. On the other side other coach's must see talent that Q refused to use and teach and get the most out of. on a pure size speed shot he was probably our best so why couldn't Q find a consistent spot for him in the top 6.

despite the issues of two tier team: aging core and youthful inexperience...

not coming ready to play is way overdone with this team...you looking for team identity?? there it is: not ready to compete

I looked forward to the day Wingels, Bouma, Sharp get traded so we can start playing the younger guys. I would still trade AA if people are asking. Also the trade market starts decreasing about 1.5 days before the deadline so work hard now and get it done early or you end up like Vancouver who held on to long and every buyer was done. And get stuck with doing nothing over trading a player for terrible value.

not impressed with him either...scouting report on him was weak on hockey IQ and board play...and thats basically what he has shown...

another of the 15 forwards that have played with toews over the last 2 years that ends up a footnote...

don't be surprised if he and his RFA status are shipped...

I think Sharp could bring back the best return of the viable trade options but I doubt the Hawks deal him. I see Sharp destined for a front office role next season.

that is possible...maybe he gets packaged with someone else...

i liked the trade for panik...it did have upside...but it looks to me the hawks and Q are not impressed...

Sign Duclair to a one year “show me” deal or package him with a mid-round pick for a second. Either option works for me.

At this point, it's almost comical how predictable not only the team is on the ice, but how Bowman/Q continue to ride the coattails of an array of veterans year-in and year-out hoping that if they throw enough **** on the wall, something will stick.

Over the course of the past ten years, how many d-men have the 'Hawks developed and held on to?

Keith. Seabrook. Hammer.

Oduya was the lone move that truly benefited this organization.

That's it.

No, actually. That's it.

I'm not even talking about guys like Leddy, Johns, TvR, etc. who got away with absolutely nothing to show for it due to poor roster management.

For whatever reason, the team simply is incapable of building from within. Whether that's a scouting problem, a development problem, or a "Q" problem, there doesn't seem to be a solution for it.

For the past 5+ years, the 'Hawks have continued to throw band-aids on their D-Core, and absolutely nothing will stick. But it's not just old veterans that are being brought in, it's players that the 'Hawks THINK they are getting something out of, only to have their tenures completely flame out.

Here's a list of all the (NHL, not including AHL) d-men the 'Hawks have acquired via trade since their first SC:

Connor Murphy
Trevor Daley -> Rob Scuderi -> Christian Ehrhoff
Kimmo Timonen
Chris Campoli
Kim Johnsson
Nick Boynton
David Rundblad

Now here's a list of signings since 2010:

Cody Franson
Jordan Oesterle
Jan Ruuta
Michal Kempny
Michal Rozsival
Brian Campbell (Round 2)
Kyle Cumiskey
Sheldon Brookbank
Steve Montador

Now I know I'm missing some names here, but the point still stands.

Until something drastic changes at the UC (whether it's the front office/scouting side of the business, or Q and his stubborn willingness to give young d-men a chance to prove themselves), this team will continue to slide into oblivion.

But I know EXACTLY how this story plays out. It plays out the same exact way it has always been playing out with Stan/Q in charge. Just as was the case with Daley and Kempny in recent years, Connor Murphy (this year's doghouse winner) will end up being dealt, and the team will bring in another younger d-man with the hopes of him developing, only to have him in Q's doghouse as well for not being able to pick up on Q's "system".

this team has psssed away more points away with pathetic 1st period efforts...i would estimate 60% of their starts are avg to poor

inexcusable and unacceptable....

- bogiedoc

Totally on the GM, the team coming out flat footed and not ready to play.
