Maybe not. The assets required to acquire Karlsson could be crippling, especially on a team with little to no forward depth. And then there is Karlsson’s next contract to consider. Frankly I’d prefer if Chiarelli passed on Karlsson and pursued John Carlson in FA. He’d be cheaper, even if he did sign 8x8.

Not easy getting Karlsson because of what you have to give up in the trade and what it would cost to sign him.

As much as we like to hammer Garth Snow, I cannot rip him if he does not trade for Karlsson or OEL. Should be many other players that could be brought in to help.

Garth and Chiarelli are exact opposites that accomplish the same thing. One makes very few moves and hobbles his team because of it. The other makes many (stupid) moves and hobbles his team because of it. The process is different but the results are the same.

The only way i rationalize that enormous blunder is by telling myself it’s a rumor and was never actually on the table.

Tweet wasn’t worded well. Isles shopped Hamonic when he made his trade request. Teams were told they only wanted a similar D back. Hall wasn’t brought up. Talks ended.

Garth didn’t even inquire about Hall? Even when he and everybody else knew the Oil were starving for competent defenders?

That’s either complete bullpoop or epic level negligence.

Whether Travis wanted a trade or not, you have to offer him up for Hall.

This is exactly the point that Garth defenders don't understand. They'll come to his defense and say "well he wasn't on the table at the time." or "Hall wasn't even discussed."

Well why wasn't he discussed, Garth?

Remember that deal I proposed when the Hamonic trade request went public?

Hall + 1st (became Puljujarvi) for Hamonic + Nelson + 1st (became Bellows)

You liked it then, would you still do it now?

The Oil can part with a player or two and a few picks.

I'd do that trade without a second thought. Whatever happened to Puljujarvi, btw? He still in the AHL?

edit: i just looked. Seems like his first season in the minors wasn't too bad. Im assuming he's hurt at the moment?

So would I, considering how things actually went down. We really should be running these (frank)ing teams.

The results are not the same. Chiarelli took over an extremely top heavy team rife with way too many forwards and zero d. He’s been GM for a quarter of the time Snow has. Let that sink in a minute.

No, they really can’t. Check out the Oiler forward point totals. Strome is tied with Lucic in goals with 9. They’re our highest scoring wingers after Maroon (soon to be traded, expiring contract) and Draisaitl who’s a part time C. Oil have zero winger depth.

I’m saying that if Chiarelli can’t put a cup team out there in the next few years he’s a goner. He wouldn’t get 12 years of suck

I wasn't really being sarcastic. I knew he was abysmal early on. I was actually surprised hes got 9 goals. If he ends up with 15 or so, his season wouldn't look so bad

You’re not winning the cup this year. Prospects are players too. Chiarelli is going to make moves as to not stay complacent. I can’t fault him for trying to shake things up. Hell even MacTavish wore out his welcome after half Snows term.
