Yeah i get it......i still feel he should have been fired for the Vanek debacle. I find it funny that Mr Conservative Garth Snow only takes risks with pending UFAs and has been burned everytime. - kindlyrick
The only Vanek issue I had was the extra 1st rd pick, the trade was fine bc Vanek is a much better player than Moulson ... |

The first round pick is the reason i take issue. You’re not getting Vanek for Moulson straight up. This is also the same GM that’s hoarding his picks now like it’s year 1 of a rebuild.
The trade itself was fine, but knowing you couldn’t re sign him after offering him crazy money, only to get Collberg in return??? That’s the second time he got burned doing that and yet it’s barely discussed. If a Canadian teams GM got beat twice like that they woulda been gone that year. |

I believe it was one. Either way it’s like buying a house for a million bucks and selling it for 500k and then saying flat out you’d do it again because at the time you thought it was a good buy. But, guess what......it wasn’t a good buy. |

It was worth the risk bc Vanek outplayed Moulson in every aspect, prob was every other Gm in league knew Vanek was going home to Minn, so Garf didnt have any legs to stand on, that's the issue on that ....
Same thing with Okposo, everyone Gm knew if isles didnt resign him, he wanted to go to BUFF bc of Moulson |

5. Newly extended Canucks GM Jim Benning raised eyebrows on Hockey Night in Canada last weekend when he said the team “would like to add a big player. Maybe a forward with some physicality who has the skill to make plays.”
My sense is they are looking for youngish players with some term or team control. Possible fits could be the likes of Nick Bjugstad (Florida), Vladislav Namestnikov (Tampa Bay) or Brock Nelson (Islanders).
The only NYI mention from Friedman's 31 Thoughts. Wonder if they'd really trade Tanev and if he couldn't be had for 1st+Nelson+another piece - eichiefs9
WAY too much for Tanev. Think of him as a soft version of Adam Larsson. Elite defensively, meh offensively, isn’t that physical, and breaks easier than Boychuk. |

We could use some 'elite defensively' around here |

True that. But believe you me, you’d hate him before long. |

I guess my point is this is the same GM who gave up a first for a rental and is now adamant about not giving up a first for a rental. I’m not suggesting that should be done, i’m merely pointing out the inconsistencies with the GM, who somehow gets away with BSing everyone.
You’re saying it was worth the risk to trade a first rounder for a rental? The isles GM is saying it’s not worth it, yet he’s done it twice and it’s failed. |

Would u take Karlsson in a deal knowing you have to take Bobby Ryan's contract too??? Lessens the return a bit ... |

If you do that then you have to trade one of Tavares or Barzal. Karlsson needs his new contract in a little over a years time, and I can’t see how you’d be able to afford all four.
Ryan - 7.25 mill.
Karlsson - at least 10 mill.
Tavares - at least 10 mill.
Barzal - if he keeps this up he’ll be worth 7+ after his ELC. |

Depending on the cost, absolutely. Is he any worse at this point than what we have on the third line? |

It’s never too late. Someone would give up major pieces for the right to sign him. I don’t want to trade Tavares but if he or anyone else is what’s keeping Garth Snow then nice knowin ya. - kindlyrick
At this late date? What contending team is giving up major pieces? The summer was the best time to trade JT. |

Nah man....a player like 91 would get a haul at the 23rd hour. Although Garth would end up getting more prospects who won’t make the NHL and draft more top 5 picks who are busts. Or draft more problem child’s outta juniors, or better yet ones who are signed in Russia. |

Ek has the Isles moving on Raanta. Have to think the price will be steep. Would be a very ice pickup, but Isles still have to address the defense and giving up all these shots. |

Was fine with the trade but at the time we didn't need a forward we needed a defenseman. If he also got a top 4 we would be speaking differently about Snow and there in lies the problem. |
