I've come to the idea that the isles should be sellers and dump any contract they can for picks as they are going to get killed if they get in anyhow. Nelson, clutterbuck, cizikas, mayfield see ya too bad Garth has essentially locked them into us with too long of term and too much money on their deals - Upstate_isles
Good luck selling Cal and Casey. It's too much work for Garth to be a seller anyway. Making one trade is tough enough for Garth. |

Nelson is the talk and he doesn't fit a bottom 6 roll very well but can score 20 a year so he has value . I think that's who gos but idk |

Nelson should have value and should have been traded months ago for a dman or a better fit for the 3rd line. |

hard to say what they need the most, d, bottom 6 forward, coach, system, gm. ok gm wins but christ if a real coach like a quenville was here I think this team would be in a top 3 spot in the division with a different system alone. the forwards miss assignment in their own end all the time that turn into goals so I think its more on them than the d |

Easier said than done when asking prices are high, Nelson will def be dealt by draft day .... |

All teams can use more talent, but in a Cap world you will have holes somewhere. A coach like Q would have made a huge difference. Isles simply are not coached well. This does not excuse Garth as he picks the coaches and the players. It's on him. Does not change the fact Doug has not done a good job and he had more talent than Cappy had to work with. |

If you are asking for OEL or Karlsson for Nelson than yes. I'm not saying this is what Garth was looking for in return for Nelson. Nelson should be able to bring back a decent dman even if the Isles have to add a #2 pick. Nelson should also bring back a useful 3rd line player. |

Im not on the Karlsson train bc of injury and high asking price, but im def on the OEL train which may be better fit for this team..

I'd also rather have OEL. Either one would be great, but the money could be tough unless the Isles can move a high salary in the deal. Still think a better coach and system would go a long way in helping. Teams can win without having the one star dman. |

GM always wins as he's had the opportunities to hire a real NHL coach and and continues to choose the unproven guy he can control. Once you clean house and bring in a proven GM and coaching staff, this team will be top 5 in the league. |

Garth had no interest in a proven coach after Nolan. Had nothing to do with Wang not wanting to pay for a coach. Garth did not want a strong coach. |

There's a ton of $$$ coming off books this year, only player worth resigning is JT, plus isles have other possible pieces to trade off .... |

Yeah there's a ton of money coming off the books, but you have to pay Tavares and then still replace all the players that aren't coming back. |

Staple said karlsson would cost around 2 1sts pulock bellows and maybe another prospect, I would move them for him or OEL. pulock is instantly replaced and a major major upgrade and either would move leddy to second pair and pp2. team can score so bellows is expendable and we have 2 1sts this year so move one and our 1st next year.
Edit how they could pay these guys is the question along with would they want to stay here |

Plus OTT wants someone to take Ryan's contract along with Karlsson
Also, while I know they would never play together, Karlsson is a right shot and he and Leddy together would be an absolutely ridiculous pairing. Imagine 72-13-7 and 2-65 |

I still fear Garth will give a huge deal to Bailey. As great as it would be to add OEL or Karlsson, it's not going to make much difference if the forwards will not play defense and the coaching staff does not implements a solid system and gets the team to buy into playing it. |

JT has the right to take his time, but it's put the team in a very tough spot in terms of planning. Not that Garth plans anyway. |

those two are huge helps as they can get the puck out with great first passes like #5 used to make. oel made one across his body in his own end while turning all the way to the far blueline and hit a guy in full stride vs us. it was a missle and something the isles currently cant do |

There is $32M coming off the cap. You have to allot $12M of that to Tavares.
So that leaves $20M to add:
- At least four forwards (Kulemin, Bailey, Nelson, Chimera)
- At least one higher-end defenseman (de Haan) and a cheap 7th guy (probably Toews on ELC)
- Starting goaltender (Halak) |

I'm sure I'd love watching OEL or Karlsson. It's just step one though and either player cannot make up for the overall lousy defensive play. This is beyond adding one very good defensemen.
