For me, I don't want Garth to do a thing but pack his shat and take his band of misfits with him.
Leave the picks and trades to be made for a real GM.

I would love this if we knew Ledecky was going to grow a brain. He needs to get off his Belmont victory tour first.

Give him a break, he's just a meticulous planner. In fact, the Islanders just tweeted some footage of him planning for the deadline

Too much hard work going on in this gif to be Garth.

Just love it when other teams are making moves and Garth is still asleep. Garth going to wait until the last minute and make a Prince type trade.

I'm really starting to wonder of Dorion wouldn't do a Nelson-for-Pageau swap

Nelson is a goner, along with de Haan.

From Staple's article about the Isles trade deadline:

— The Isles have seen the Canadiens a few times in the past few weeks. Montreal doesn't have any defensemen to offer, but the Isles have been sniffing around Alex Galchenyuk for a while. He would certainly give them better top 9 forward depth and comes in at a reasonable salary number ($4.9-million for the next two years), but this seems more like an offseason move rather than a big gamble in the coming days.

Galchenyuk or the Sens' J-G Pageau would also allow the Isles to move on from Brock Nelson, either in a package or a separate deal. The writing seems to be on the wall for the mercurial Nelson, who hasn't found a role to thrive in with the emergence of Barzal and addition of Eberle.

I can’t even believe that there’s discussion of forward “depth” when the defensive roster is worse now then in the 90s.

Yeah and looking at Galy he is exactly what the Islanders don't need. A dangling forward who has zero phucking clue how to play the defensive side of the puck and makes the dumb play more than not.

I don't think considering upgrading one precludes them from addressing the other, it's not really a "one thing at a time" kind of job.

The fact is that Nelson doesn't really have a role on this team but does still have some value. His contract this offseason probably won't be a significant raise from where it's at and a team with an internal budget like the Sens may view that as valuable.

I’m just talking about from a 45-50 shots a night standpoint. Is adding a dynamic Russian forward going to address the goals against? It’s shocking to me. On the list of needs 1-5, the first 3 are defensive help

One could argue 1-5 however we do need bottom 6 guys and that's not galy. Maybe they want him and aren t planning to extend Bailey

Last thing we need are more forwards with no interest playing defense.

Galchenyuk is American, but he's not the answer. I'm surprised that Staple referred to his contract as "good" at a $4.9M cap hit, too. I don't like him either. I've obviously stated my desire to add Pageau for the 3C spot.

Defensive help doesn't only come in the form of defensemen. For as putrid as the d-men on this team are, the forwards are equally as lost in the defensive zone. Consistently blowing assignments and leaving guys open, not able to contribute to clean zone exits with the puck, etc... They're almost as much to blame as the defensemen themselves. Defense is a 5-man effort and the Islanders have very few forwards that are competent in their own end. I'm not totally convinced that part of that isn't the system they play, but the fact is that the players are bad defensively too. Nearly all of them.

We're in agreement that defensemen are the #1 priority, but I have absolutely no issue addressing the deficiencies in the bottom-6 as well. Nothing is going to get fixed all at once and improvement is improvement.

Forwards on this team should get big blame for the defensive problems. The coaching has been bad, but the forwards do not put in the effort. Focus should be on adding a dman than can help now and going forward and help for the third line defensively.
