WSH gives up a third-round pick for Kempny.

Michal Kempny said he’s been traded to the Capitals. He just left the building with his sticks.
Which means Holden should bring back a 3rd +... - 21peter
Talk about an overpayment for a third pair d-man who doesn’t put up points. |

That’s fine. But remember if you can exchange me in for someone else, turnabout is fair play, and I get to do the same 😄😄 - airjan23
I wouldn't get back a kit-kat though. Maybe some dried fruit, or a couple pennies. |

Based on that fact, Jan, it must be closer to an upper 4th Round pick, as opposed to being a mid to upper 3rd Rounder. |

Not saying that Gorton should have gotten more for Hags and Talbot and Stefan, but hopefully, he's not overplaying his hand and has to takes pennies on the dollar at deadline day |

Not yet but we are obviously in the initial stages of the conversation, since I have yet to be approached - airjan23
... solely due to dundee's return here?
Hire McLeod to be your personal body guard, Jan.
I'm mad at myself for mentioning that trade in the first place. |

I feel like I'm Gorton's sales manager at a used car lot.
First thing I do is get to the office and think "wonder if Gorton has sold anything yet. I better go check." |

Good pick up, Peter. I never even thought of the idea that the pick could be "conditional" in nature.
That's more so due to the fact of thinking that, "there was finally another trade completed somewhere", which leads some to believe if in the end, there will be more sellers than buyers through this deadline.
That's likely more possible since the entire hockey world was told that by Sather and Gorton back on Feb. 8th, with our luck in the one season when we will not be playoff bound in what seems like decades. |

The problem with all of this possibly dealing for the Rangers is, Sather is still involved. It seems to me, Gorton must "run it by" Sather. Man, I wish he would just go away. - OLDSCHOOL#6

I still feel that they are currently trying to replace A.V. from the outside, rather than ride the season out with Ruff. That could be why they have not made a single trade yet, after having announced themselves as sellers 11 days ago. It's best they have the new bench voice here first, in order to have his say in any deals, to benefit his own coaching system.
These three straight days off should be their best time to likely acquire the highest return for their top players rumored to go. That's especially so with their two top UFA's in Grabner and Nash, because as the deadline approaches it's end, their return values will diminish, with teams knowing they don't want to let them walk away free without any return. The exception would be barring any pre deadline, key & unforeseeable injury occurring on a team that will be in need of either as a rental only, in comparison to McDonagh having one more year remaining on his deal. |

I agree with Murdoch, the conversations are probably going like this
Gorton:Glen I'm gonna call Nashville
Sather: Not yet, we had that 2 game winning streak, maybe another memo
We get our hopes up and the Rangers squash them, if we were a buyer right now we'd be over paying, now we'll probably under sell |

Read earlier on TSN that the Ducks GM was saying that the prices were ridiculous right now to buy, and perhaps that's preventing the market from really getting into gear early on the trade front. Buyers are waiting for prices to drop, and sellers are holding on their higher demands because they have a week left.

Despite this season likely culminating with a much earlier summer vacation than the norm, they should also consider acquiring a fully reliable, backup goalie with Hank appearing to be wearing down, if not worse as he looked on Sunday. With Pavelec still sidelined with an MCL sprain, it's not worth it for Hank to risk injury. In addition, the recent seasons' injured Pavelec will be a UFA this summer as well.
A reunion with Antti Raanta would be great, should the Coyotes decide to trade him, with he becoming a free agent as well this summer. The better reliable Raanta would allow Hank more games of rest than Pavelec would next season. But his price could be high, especially due to the number of goalies that have recently suffered injuries, including both Elliott and Neuvirth of the Flyers within about a week's time, as well as Mike Smith of Calgary last week against the Isles.
Another good Rangers option may be possible from Toronto, due to them being very close to, if not at the maximum amount of 50 roster organization spots, and still looking to add at the deadline, including possibly in a trade for Ryan McDonagh. That goalie is Calvin Pickard down in their minors. He is very agile & mobile like Raanta, and formerly played well on an extended basis in the NHL, for a poor Avalanche team prior to this season, in handling workloads of action and shots while there. |
