I think OJ will be a top pairing defenseman after a few seasons. The kid quietly plays a very solid game from beginning to end. I agree Tanev is the best partner for him to develop. I have said before and I say again, keep one of Tanev and Guddy. Trade the other. Tanev gets the biggest return, but with him and Edler we have 2 guys that can anchor a pairing. With Guddy, you have to play him with Edler to be effective, but still gives us a good top pairing.

He will be. But how is Tanev going to mentor him here when he is never healthy?

I find this notion funny. The team still finishes bottom 5 with them, and I think they are a big part of the reason only 1 player from the past 3 drafts has made their NHL debut.

Without them, I think the team does something stupid like trade or signs veterans and/or rushed some of these prospects into the lineup too early. Some may disagree and think they have a greater impact, but IMO they are placeholders and everyone, including the players, knows it

I think it’s pretty clear you’re wrong . Every off season Benning has tried to sign a guy who is going to compliment the twins. Vrby, LE, Gags/Vanksey.

I wondr what they would give? a 3rd or better is preferable.

Which with Boston is essentially a 4th.

I think it's been well proven that our mentorship program is based on the " do as I say , not as I do " style. I'm sure the Sedins preach about a strong two way game with an aggressive back check..... Edler is probably always going on about the importance of moving ones feet... boxing out... Not screening your own goalie , and always getting your shot through to the net !

What are their needs and what do we have that they would express the slightest interest in?

Don't think there is a reasonable trade match with Pens this year guys. I do watch Vancouver a lot as well.
I think they're saving their 1st and 2nd rounders for Brassard or Kane, if their prices come down.

Hope the Nucks can do something at the deadline and stock up on picks for once.

Could we interest you in Alex Biega? He is a decent depth defenseman that provides some physicality, can play forward and would only cost a 6th rounder.

Our defense is solid and they have depth already. Hunwick is on the block and could be traded before the deadline. Chad Ruhwedel is our 7th dman (he's good as a fill-in)in that case, otherwise we have 8.

I wish Hank would be open to a move for the playoffs.

Watched zero Olympics so far. Heard some figure skating play by play... makes no sense on the radio. Heard a call on a Spread Eagle and my ears perked up. Now Vantel is talking about these Curling woman who suck. Am I missing some really hot Olympics?

if JB could ship Louie E with Jake, that would be great. It will be to late the next couple years to get anything for Jake so a package would be a blessing. As for Tanev they missed payday return on this guy, he is a injury machine, worth a second rounder (if they could get that) or something like this,if Jim could pull a Garth move) Louie E, Tanev and Jake V, 3rd to Isles for 2nd, Ladd and Ho-sang (his days are done with this management group in nyi).

Don't you know that if we have a great 4th line it'll mean that we're a cup contender.
- Pres.cup

I’d be single & playing the field til death if i had a great 4th line...

You know how Bob Mckenzie said that 5 minutes to 3 he's a 4th or 5th round pick for someone. I don't really see it that way.

On TSN's on trade bait list he's tied with Kane and Hoffman in points. He has a salary half as much as both of them. They want 1st, roster player and a prospect for both Kane and Hoffman. Same with Nash and Patches.

Maroon and Grabner should be same cost range as Vanek. IMO.

If the teams aren't going to pay the prices for guys like Hoffman, Kane and Patches they will be after the secondary bunch.

- manvanfan

Good points👍
No Probs if we keep Vanek if teams don’t see him for what he can do. IMO the TDL would be a boring time then.

From the high asks to the Vaneks what is more likely?
1) blockbuster deal(s) & overpay
2) sanity & value trades
3) GM bs rhetoric before during & after.

My answer is a blend of 2 & 3.

Teams like Nashville, Boston, Carolina, LA, SJ maybe even NJ looking for scoring. Teams that won't want to mortgage their futures for others.

All good possibilities 👍
Wanting picks is one thing but prospects are further along. Any u see we want?
Good young D topping the list. I’ll take a look.

I think I would prefer picks this year. Could have 8 or so rookies playing in Utica next season. 5 rookies in Utica this season. 13 first/second year players in Utica could prove troublesome.

Should consider taking a bad contract back if Van can get a higher pick. Carolina has Marcus Kruger buried and Boston has Matt Beleskey.

Plan B is prospects if teams want to keep picks.
I’m wondering who we could nab?

How much for Fabbro?

I don't think Van has enough for Fabbro unless it's Tanev. Doubt NSH needs tanev.

Might have to look at guys more like David Farrance, Julien Gauthier, Roland Mckeown, John Quenville, Joachim Blichfeld, Jacob Middleton, Jacob Moverare, Mikey Eyssimont

Probably just a non starter for Nashville.

His teammate leading the team in scoring could be available as free agent

Heard LA wants scoring, also wants out of Tanner Pearson contract.
Vanek and Baertschi for Pearson and D prospect or a couple mid-lower picks.
