stop gaps are fine. stop gaps in year 4 or 5 of a rebuild is not ideal, but ok that's fine. What is lost a bit amongst the signing is the fact that the organization refuses to address the glaring issues on D. Our D has been one of the worst in the league for the last 3 years, both defensively, and offensive contributions. This deal kind of just says " we will continue with what we have and hope for better results". Edler is back next year, Tanev isn't getting traded, Hutton is back next year. DP + Stecher + Biega are the RFA's. I just want to see a sign of improvement, and this signing doesn't do that.

It'll be interesting to see what they plan to do now. Only the Sedins and Vanek are the key UFA's remaining now and everyone went from saying this could be the Sedins last year to saying that they'll be back. Sounds like Benning is going to let them decide and I think they'll say yes to another year, especially with EP coming.

So if thats true then you have basically all the vets from this year returning next year, except Vanek. Something's gotta give.

That’ll definitely help our draft position next year!!!
- LeftCoaster

And the year after, and the year after, and so on and so on.

3 years away from being 9 years away from being 3 years away. The new Oilers, thank you Aquilini.

This team will never win because the owner is not a winner, he is a cheater, he cheated his way to his wealth, hell, he owns this team by cheating out Gaglardi.

Karma is a female dog.

Most in here quit paddling all together. Drowning is worse then jumping off a cliff.

Jumping off a cliff is preferable, at least you die instantly 😜

another silver lining,
One of the canucks bloggers said that Gudbransons deal ends the year that a bunch of our prospects will be exiting their ELC's. (Gaudette, Dahlen, EP, Gadjovich, Lind, all probable) If Benning see's this as a rebuild, maybe 2022/2023 is the date he thinks we will be competitive

- Codes1087

if that's the case Benning won't be around to see this team become decent again.

That's almost a 10 year "rebuild/retool"

Pierre Lebrun asked a rival GM what he thought of the signing and he said he would make this signing in a heart beat. A playoff GM at that

It’s not really about the signing, it’s about the process of rebuilding, at least to me. The team needs more draft picks, but there’s six more days to accomplish that.

we'll see what happens. It'll be disappointing if the only move they make is trading Vanek.

saw that tweet earlier.

I'm guessing it was 1 of Murray, McPhee, Sweeney, MacLellan

Maybe Wilson since he traded a 2nd for Polak

I hope they add picks as well. But who can they trade other than Vanek? Tanev is the one that needs to go but he has a broken leg. Del Zotto? We get two thirds for them? The reality is other teams don't want our trash.
