Three more seasons should even out with the start of the upswing. Make the playoffs in the 4th year, after Guddy is gone and Benning is gone. |

I wonder if Benning has been given clear instructions that no player contract can run longer than his GM term? |

The way the contract is structured makes it seem like they'd be open to moving him in year 3, unless they want to re-sign him again.
I'm cool with stopgaps, but this team needs extra draft picks. I'd much rather have an extra 2nd rounder in this draft and then go out and sign a stopgap bottom pairing vet dman this summer, even if it's an older guy.

I know you're joking, but some of these ownership conspiracy theories are getting out of control.

stop gaps are fine. stop gaps in year 4 or 5 of a rebuild is not ideal, but ok that's fine. What is lost a bit amongst the signing is the fact that the organization refuses to address the glaring issues on D. Our D has been one of the worst in the league for the last 3 years, both defensively, and offensive contributions. This deal kind of just says " we will continue with what we have and hope for better results". Edler is back next year, Tanev isn't getting traded, Hutton is back next year. DP + Stecher + Biega are the RFA's. I just want to see a sign of improvement, and this signing doesn't do that. |

The deal says we could get rid of everyone like the TML and then once we have really good forwards. We can suck because we dont have a defence. Lets over pay for one now.
I agree finding even decent serviceable defence runs a cost of at least a 3rd round pick for trash ones. |

another silver lining,
One of the canucks bloggers said that Gudbransons deal ends the year that a bunch of our prospects will be exiting their ELC's. (Gaudette, Dahlen, EP, Gadjovich, Lind, all probable) If Benning see's this as a rebuild, maybe 2022/2023 is the date he thinks we will be competitive |
