It is a drain on the cap when you consider Benning is continually overpaying bottom guys to play for the Canucks. Sutter, Eriksson and now Gudbranson are all overpaid. That's about 10 million worth that you're paying 14 million dollars.

agreed on the crap division. and the leafs have only played 10 of their 20 games against those bottom 5 teams lots of easy points still up for grabs

5% cap next year is hardly a drain & it gets less as years go by. He is an average contract considering everything. Thats what an ELC is for unless ppl want overpaid UFA’s not named JT EK etc.

Same, I am hoping this is a precursor to another move. So far, the guy they use in the bottom pairing got $4m and another that gets $2.8 is routinely a scratch, which doesnt sit well with me. They will essentially be bringing back the entire defense, which has been dreadful and not improving

BUT I will be patient until training camp to see how the backend unfolds, there is TDL and the draft where changes can be made
