he got praise for surrounding Mcd with the "right players"
the smarter oilers fans knew it wasn't true, their pom pom fans fell for it. - Nucker101
Talbot had a career year, which is why they made the playoffs, everyone in the know said it wasn't sustainable. Talbot is a career backup, much like Dubnyk, the only difference is that Dubnyk played behind a horrible defense for years when he was in Edmonton and Talbot at least has a serviceable D-corps in front of him even if it's not playoff worthy. |

Dubnyk is a career backup? - CubanBuffet
Should have read my post before I hit post, I meant to say Dubnyk was a career backup but played behind a really terrible defense and still had upside when he was traded. Playing behind Suter and Spurgeon would help any goaltender have less to worry about and just worry about stopping the puck once or maybe at most twice. |

I wouldn’t be surprised if Talbot put up decent numbers on a different team as well. Edmonton still doesn’t exactly lock it down. |

Our 4 highest paid forwards have 4 more goals than rookie forward. 1/3 of cap space towards 31 goals combined. That is why you are close to the bottom not because Dorsett was paid a million more or Sbisa . - VANTEL
I think the storey is deeper than that. It’s not about what these players are getting paid so much as it’s about no one pushing to replace them. |

You guys get younger and the more physical guy.
We get the better defensive forward and 1 year less on the contract.
Production is virtually identical at evens, too. |

Oilers had a lot of bad luck to start the year. Talbot hurt, Sekera out, Klefbom out, Draisaitl out and McDavid sick, it literally killed their first few months they just couldn't recover. Talbot just needs to play less games and he'll be fine. We don't live in the era where goalies play 75 games per year any more. Remember it took Crosby almost three seasons to get PIT back on the map. You can only keep players like McDavid and Draisaitl down so long. They'll be right back in the mix of the playoffs next year. |

VAN and pending UFA D Erik Gudbranson are on track to conclude a multi-year contract extension sometime this week, perhaps as early as today. I discussed yesterday what it might look like: |

Solid skater. High hockey IQ. ELITE level shot (speed + accuracy). Knows when to jump up in the play & create odd-man rushes. Terrific at getting shots through from the point. Soft spoken, kind young man, leads by example. Would maybe like to see a little more intensity at times.
A guys scouting report on Evan Bouchard. We already worry about OJs level of intensity. 😂 |
