That's because their depth on D is pretty bad. Their goaltending is also very bad. They have a lot of really good young forwards. |

Awesome. Stats that are actually pertinent to a player.
Do you have a link to this site/s? - Reubenkincade
I have them bookmarked on my laptop. I’ll link them when I get home. One of them is behind a paywall though. |

sure hope he pans out (#2/3).

I’ve moved on from corsi. There’s better stats out there. How many shots the dman allows from the slot/near the net. How good he is at moving the puck out of the zone against forecheckers, how good he is at stopping opposing forwards from gaining the zone with full control vs forcing a dump and chase, etc.
Chances are that a dman whis good at forcing dump and chase and then good at beating the forecheck is a pretty good dman in today’s game.
Cody Franson is a guy who is a prime example of why corsi is flawed - Nucker101

I checked out Sbisa’s numbers a couple of weeks ago. They were pretty decent. Can’t remember the rest of their D. |

Say the cap is $80m
My quick spending breakdowm goes like this...
F 48m
D 25m
G 7m
Question who & how much for each.
4th line for about 5m
5-6D 3m
The rest is flexible dependent on the salary keepers longterm |

Neem whats the analytic autopsy on that pls? Tyvm - Nighthawk
much like Toronto, when you outscore your opponents by a massive margin you're going to win. Isles can't really be praised for good defence, goaltending has also been suspect but JT and Barzal are looking like a top5 or 10 1-2 punch. Ottawa does't have a 1 punch let alone a 2 punch up front. Below average goaltending/D has hurt them more than the isles for this reason.
However, the statistical trend the last 5-6 years is that teams that allow an egregious amount of goals in the regular season don't make it past the second round of the playoffs. Tor/Edm last year, Dallas the year before and so on are examples of this. NYI will have a hard time winning more than one 7 game series against teams better at suppressing shots than them.
Teams with the best possession numbers (Pitt, Chi, TB) and Corsi (LA, BOS, NSH) seem to be trending up, but having an outlier performer statistically (almost always a top5 pick) is paramount to winning also. While there's much more to what they are doing on the ice than numbers, the numbers do show that these teams control play by either keeping the puck away and in the offensive zone producing shots and/or suppressing quality chances from happening. The strategies of how to do these things differ from team to team, but the results are the same: winning teams do these two things well.

I actually think he covered that. Teams that give up less shots/scoring chances generally do better than ones that are comfortable trading chances and out-scoring teams in more wide open hockey.
Teams like Boston are built better for the playoffs than Toronto. |
