I think he is a servicable player. Good is a stretch. I was hoping he would be a number 4 but he is playing like a 5/6. I don't care if he is traded or not. All I am saying is I want them to trade 2 defensman and not 3.

I honestly think JB thinks he is serviceable, rather than good. I also think this is more about saving face than anything. Losing Gudbranson to either free agency, or for a super low return, makes his past trade (McCann + 2nd + 4th) look bad. I would prefer he cut his losses, said "I gave it a shot, you win some you lose some" and do whats best for the organization, which imo, is not only not re-signing him, but properly build this team with what you specialize in as a GM, and that is drafting.

c'mon let's be honest... if EG hadn't been drafted where he was, he'd be a bottom pairing d that gets signed in august.

the size and his "pedigree" keep fans wanting/expecting/wishing for more. let's be honest with who he is and cut bait.

that's not to say that the team shouldn't have size on the backend. i just don't want an overpaid 3rd pairing guy being the focus of it.

Carlson is easily getting 7M+ long term with a full NTC if the Caps can’t re-sign him(I think they will since they want to be a contender with Ovie).

De Haan would be a solid target. He probably gets EG type money, except he can actually play on the 2nd pairing
