Just out of curiosity when do you think the flyers will make the finals and have a chance to win a cup?
- Bobd62

Two seasons from now is when I think I will consider them a legitimate cup contender.

Hard to imagine they have a legitimate chance until the goalie gets figured out. Which it’s all eyes on carter hart. He is our savior. The numbers he’s putting up in the Whl are historic. Remains to be seen

Exactly. And there are no guarantees. But honestly I have no idea. I’m happy with them making progress every year at this point. They’ve only been to the Stanley cup twice in my lifetime and they lost both. I honestly couldn’t guess.

He does look good. There has to be somebody out there at the deadline for the flyers in goal that wouldn’t cost too much. You know that once your in anything can happen a long run this year wouldn’t be out of the question depending on who they can get

dude it's a 10 year rebuild ok?
- Giroux_Is_God

You tell me which is better, being a contender for 10 years with one of the best goalies in the league or rebuilding for 10 years. Here’s each team’s results over that time frame:

10 year contender: 949 points, missed playoffs once, won division twice, won conference once, lost in Finals once, won 10 playoff series

10 year rebuild: 902 points, missed playoffs three times, won division once, won conference once, lost in Finals once, won 7 playoff series

Looks pretty sad that a contender wasn’t all that much better than a rebuilding team for 10 years…

Also funny he said earlier in the thread you can’t do a long rebuild in NY. Before the lockout they missed the playoffs 7 times in a row.

Even better, since the Flyers entered the league in 67:

Rangers, 1 Cup, 4 trips to the finals
Flyers 2 Cups, 8 trips to the finals

The Flyers also have more division titles, a higher aggregate winning percentage and have made the playoffs more often and won more series.

When comparing franchises, it’s really not even close.

I would really like to see Hart as an emergency call-up for Tuesday’s game. Against a bad Montreal team, before they run out and get someone maybe.... just maybe.... we have the answer here and now.

Interesting fact I just read...

Good find by Flyers PR guru Brian Smith: the team hasn’t allowed a power play against in two consecutive games, which hasn’t happened since the league went to game-by-game box scores in 1977.

Yup, not comparable. Which makes it even funnier that he wants to focus on the past 10 years when his team hasn't been able to take advantage of having a HOF goalie and still hasn't managed to be that much better than the Flyers in that sample.

We have picks. A third for an emergency NHL-ready goalie is right about what I imagine the cost is. Most likely it's more expensive since Neuvirth has gone down.

Penguins are the hottest team in the league probably right behind are the Devils. Malkin is playing out of his mind right now.
