The chances of the Flyers winning the Cup are slim. I don't think they are a legit contender. I'm glad you mentioned that though because it segue's perfectly to illustrate my reasoning as to why I don't think the Flyers should give up a significant future asset to acquire a goaltender.

If that's the mindset then they should just move Simmonds by the deadline.

Why? We're not a tanking team and we aren't devoid of talent. We're waiting for prospects not desperately in need of prospects. I think making the playoffs and having a good series is important for this team

So we can move him in a package for Dahlin at the draft. Woooo.

My point is that if he's going to be cheap and keep his picks in his pocket and gets a bargain barrel goalie instead then its almost like a soft tank. (yes, Pens fan, tank...)
I think the team is playing really good hockey and with the race as tight as it is, I would be mad if they just rolled with Lyon and some other scrub.

I'll be mad if they give up a significant future asset just to try and win this season. This team is no where near that point in my opinion where they should be doing that. Neither Elliott or Neuvirth has been ruled out for the season. We don't know the status of Neuvirth yet but it may be the case where all they need is a decent experienced backup.

If he doesn't added a goalie then he's basically throwing the towel in on the season. Not a tank though. That would be trading someone like TK right now.

He needs to add a goalie though. Letting your team sink to the middle of the pack is sadder than tanking imo.

There also is no need to trade 3 picks and a d prospect for 5 weeks.

Youre right, "tank" is a little extreme. With Elliot out until at least late March and even if/when Neuwirth comes back its still a little shakey in net. Imo whatever happens the next week pretty much defines the rest of the season.

I wouldn't consider it being cheap, I would consider it sticking to the long term plan. He's been very clear about not giving up future for immediate short term help. At some point, that philosophy will change. I don't think now is that point. I do expect him to try to get a very cheap NHL experienced goalie that will bridge the gap until Elliott returns.

I don't know the severity of Neuvirths current injury, but even if he is back soon, I wouldn't trust that he stays healthy.

Simmonds is signed through next season.

With his contract, that's part of what makes him a more valuable trade chip.

I'd strongly consider moving him now(not likely with the playoffs well within reach) or at the draft. His play has declined.

Mrazek is at the top of my list of possible goalies for the current Flyers situation. 3rd round pick is not the end of the world IMO.

Or send him to Toronto for a package of Pickard and Kapanan +

Maybe, maybe not. If we find out in the next week Neuvirth is out long term and they stand pat, it is telling that he's letting the season ride on a goalie that has 3-4 games of NHL experience.

I'm leaning towards he gets traded at the draft if they can get something similar or better than they got for Schenn.

That's not what I am hoping for, just how I think it might play out.

The part that is extreme is stating that the next week will define the Flyers season.

Sure hope Morin is still in their plans. Really hoping he becomes the Chara of the Flyers! Anyone know where he is injury-wise?

I'm sure this has been mentioned already, but seeing Wayne pummel that puke DeAngelo had me out of my seat cheering as if he scored a game winner. Beautiful stuff.

I'd only give up a third for an experienced backup and ride Lyon, Tokarski, and whoever they get.

Beats me, the Flyers treat injury info with more security than the US gov't treats the nuclear codes.

There's so many players available and not enough suitors plus teams ate less likely than ever to give up picks. I think you are going to see a major decrease in prices across the league. Just too many options this year

Was at the Phantoms game last night, and no one sitting around me knew anything. You’re right BiggE. Sometimes, the lack of information is over the top.
