Morin could be the odd man out, but I think his ceiling is higher than Hagg's and he will be a better penalty killer than Hagg and a much more intimidating force on the ice. But who really knows what Hextall is thinking, he plays his cards very close to the vest. - BiggE
Agree, it is hard to evaluate. I just wonder what he thinks about his top 6 winger depth. Appears they have decent bottom 6 options close, but there really isnt another winger prospect close to Konency coming out of Sarnia. NHL GMs really like the dman for forward trade. Im penciling Frost as a center. Like you wrote Morin has the higher ceiling, but lower floor then Hagg, so maybe he is the trade bait? Its a nice problem to have.

If sanheim Morin Meyers came to the Nhl in that order over the next 3 years they would perfectly cycle with the expiring contracts of manning gudas MacDonald wouldn't it ? Meanwhile by the end of those 3 years you would have - while still being young - gost at what 6/7 years ? Provy at 4. Hagg at 3, sanheim 2, Morin and I. It wont be rookies itll just be young players. |

Morin has to be in the NHL next season or he'll have to go thru waivers.
FYI, if Neuvirth is bought out after this season, the cap penalties are:
18-19: 1 million
19-20: 750K - BiggE
The chances of Neuvirth being bought out = zero. |

The chances of the Flyers winning the Cup are slim. I don't think they are a legit contender. I'm glad you mentioned that though because it segway's perfectly to illustrate my reasoning as to why I don't think the Flyers should give up a significant future asset to acquire a goaltender. - MJL
I think you meant segue.

Nice job, I think Morin is the odd man out actually. Hexy didnt draft him, the organization at this point thinks Hagg is better and with his physical attributes and time in the AHL his trade value should be very solid. Myers being a RH dmen eventually takes Gudas spot. Sanheim will still be very good. - ravishingone
I see this as a serious misread. Hagg is ahead of Morin at this point in development but I don't think they see the same upside in Hagg that they see in Morin. The future hope is that Morin becomes the defensive stalwart with his long reach and physical skills and plays heavy minutes in defensive situations as a top 4 defenseman and Hagg winds up as a 3rd pair physical defender. I'll add the same stipulation as offered in other posts. I could be wrong but that's how I see it. I think they're still very high on Morin.

Maybe, maybe not.
Looking ahead they should have more than enough cap room in 18-19 to absorb a million in dead space.
As to 19-20, right now the combined cap hit for goalies is 5.25 million. Assuming Elliott is extended for 2 years at the same cost, Hart is a rookie on a max ELC and you are carrying the last year of Neuvirth's buyout, the total combined hit for goaltending would be $4.425 million. I really don't see the issue.

I agree. Lyon did not look good in earlier starts but he played really well yesterday. - MJL
Another aspect of this we're not considering is that the team is winning. If we were on a 5 game losing streak, maybe it's more likely. People think hexy is desperate but if we keep winning, is he really?
With complicating factors like contracts and what do you do with the guy you acquire once everyone is healthy, it's just as likely he stands pat. Not to mention the fact that hexy wants to re stock the cupboards up and down the org, and doesn't trade any picks for short term fixes.
If hexy deems neuvy unreliable, then maybe he cuts bait and replaces him. |

Well your banking on Morin developing into a top 4 dman not the next Olesiak. With Morin having to go thru waivers next season, we re about to find out.

It could be possible Hexy + Flyers will keep Morin down in the AHL to finish the year, evaluate him at seasons end to determine if he fits the future and if he doesn’t, move him at the draft. Personally I hope this doesn’t happen. I want Morin to stick with us. |

There is never a guarantee with any prospect. I just don't see Morin as the odd man out and the Flyers giving up on him. Hextall is on record as believing in "slow cooking" propspects and not rushing them.

Understandable, but this is Morin s 3 rd year being a pro. Im assuming Hexy would have a pretty good evaluation of where Morin is and where he can reasonably elevate to become. If he is moved I consider it asset management just like the trades of McGinn and Rinaldo. Personally, I dont have a preference either way.

Would a 1st rounder be able to land Athanasiou and Mrazek if so I would pull the trigger. |

For a rental goalie and a 3rd line winger ? Yeah probably. Question is why would we do it ? |

If Morin is traded I don't see it happening because the Flyers gave up on him. Morin is still only 22 which is very young for a defenseman. Same age as when Gostisbehere first came up I beleive. Same age as Hagg who spent 3 seasons with the Phantoms. McGinn and Rinaldo were fringe players. |

Athanasiou is extremely underrated if you put him on that line with Patrick and Voracek he'd light it up no doubts in my mind |

If Hextall was chatting up Mrazek before yesterday for a 3rd, it's my belief it would've been done by now. Unless there's discussions to expand the move now that the leverage has moved a bit in Detroit's favor.
Maybe with the issues surrounding Morin, they raise the ante to include Sam plus the 3rd for Mrazek and, say, Svechnikov. Plug in who you want. |
