So I want trades like all the time, but it is tough to understand specific details, but I can only imagine that a new GM gets low ball offers for his players on a bottom feeding team, until the deadline. So it's hard to say he should have moved guys when we don't know what was on the table for any guy. I mean who has been traded during the season that you would have wanted?
- Lilroot9

I'm not surprised at all. This team is garbage heap. No one wants to give a treasure trove to a bunch of unmotivated overpriced players.

Deadline day is usually a day where playoff teams augment their team and will trade futures for aquiring low risk high potential for the long playoff run.

What GM in their right mind would make a deal for any of the Sabres?

Hell, if I wanted to keep my GM job I'd steer clear of this lot.

The other GMs aren't going to low ball GMJB because he's new, he'll get the same offers for his players that the market dictates. As for guy's who I'd like to see gone: Kane, Lehner, Larsson, Girgs, Gorges, Bowel-U, Johnson, Pouliot, Josefsson, Nolan, Bogo, and I'm sure I'm forgetting a few. None of these guys are long term parts for this team, I've seen enough, time to move on from them.

Yep next Monday

The 2018 NHL trade deadline, which is scheduled for Feb. 26 at 3 p.m. ET

- cabin

I used to sit and watch NHL network simulcast of TSN's deadline coverage, but the last few years have been 8 hours of nothing, followed by 25 lame trades in the last hour

A developed team with a plan would be better with some of our players . They do have talent . Trade a player to a team with a captain that institutes a certain set of things wanted from the player is better than go out there and try and score .

Adding McCoy or Glenn or both with a 2nd moves us from our 2nd rd pick to maybe the top of the 2nd rd. 11th? Lol. Ya that’s not happening.

McCoy prob would fetch a 3rd on a lucky day and cordy a 5th or 6th at this point in their careers/salary. That’s moving you up a couple picks in the 2nd and not getting you anywhere near a 1st.

- Fattony1187

I agree with the McCoy value, probably a 3rd.

Glenn is only worth a 5th or 6th?
He's a starting tackle, they do not grow on trees. Everyone was pretty high on him last year before the injuries.

I guess with the contract , maybe you are right

It is apparently THAT EASY to make trades 😉

Have no idea in the difficulties of making a trade, but if GMJB is unhappy, he's the only one who can change things. He's has 30 colleagues he can talk to, time to pick up the phone and reach out to them.

It wouldn’t be something that would cause you to turn over the taco bar, if it was the plan....

I guess, considering the source, I completely ignored this claim.

I must be the only person who thought jbotts would be aiming for a top pick this year?

What gm wouldn't want a shot at mitts and another really solid prospect. I'm sure when he laid out the plan for Terry and Kim, they said go for it. We understand the formula for winning in the nhl.

Pick early and get stars.
They still have a dog named sidney? They have wanted to be Pittsburgh like. The whole Crosby and Malkin and Stanley cup thing.

They sold their season tickets, this was the last chance to really tank. Now or never

A lot of frustration is coming from his lack of not doing anything during the season so far. He's traded for Wilson , that's it. He has a lot of players to move by the deadline and there's no reason why he shouldn't be off loading them now if there are offers on the table for them. We keep hearing of rumors of interest by many teams on different players, yet nothing is getting done. Why always wait until the the last hour on traded deadline day to move players? A far superior return isn't going to magic happen in the last hour, in fact, usually the opposite happens and you get much less for a player. GMJB procrastinating has probably significantly hurt Kane's return.
- sskkoo1

These rumors are not facts.

What if no one wants our garbage?
What if a team offered a 2nd for Kane?

I'm not disappointed at all in jbotts

I highly doubt that after GMTM, Terry and Kim said "Yeah, tank-on, brother!"

No way. He pitched a 6-8 month roster evaluation, if anything, and building from the ground-up, creating a winning environment in the farm system and filtering out the guys who wouldn't adapt to system-hockey under Housley.

Unfortunately for him, there's a grand total of 3, maybe 4 guys who actually listen to their coach, a complete lack of effort/talent and I can't imagine anyone thought we'd suck this bad going into the season, what with such hot takes as:

"We're closer than you think"

And I'm sure he's talked to them. Making changes is one thing, giving away players for nothing or finding other, willing trade partners in a cap world is another.

Maybe after the eval he was hoping there would be more than 3 or 4 guys . And they all chit the bed . So now a full on dumpster dumping . He has more work to do than he expected .

It takes 2 gms to make a trade.

These guys really suck. This is a tank year. Not sure how anyone couldn't at least consider that?

We have a proven record of tanking and owners who agree with tanking.
A new gm who came from A very successful franchise with 2 top centers, and 5 early picks in a row.

You can't tank forever but, do you really want to be in 22nd place?

Our team is a bunch of guys who have no value. Purposely gathered to finish at the bottom.
In my opinion

And evaluating an entire roster isn't a 5-10 game thing. It takes time. Guys get hot, guys cool off. You need a decent sample size before you can just say, "player a, b and c will play the way the coach wants, players d, e, f and g are young and have upside. The other 12 I can move on from. Siri, call Ray Shero".

Well, Ray isn't interested in making a deal right now for 'this' reason. The next GM isn't ready to make a trade for 'this' reason.

As you said, Cab, this isn't a video game.

More so no leadership . Team has no captain to hold them accountable for their lack of performance.

Then maybe he wasn't the right guy for the job because anyone with a face could see this team's roster was awful.

The GMTM rhetoric of "He rushed the re-build and made bad trades" is also getting old. There was nothing wrong with him wanting a 3rd season under his coach, and no reason to eject him so soon given the roster we have.

He traded guys who are doing exactly nothing on their new teams. Nothing. Sure, he traded FOR guys who aren't doing much, but at least he tried to flip the roster completely and ice a competitive team as fast as possible. Jack getting injured last season alone should have allowed a 3rd season from him and Bylsma.

I'd also like to see what roster he iced this season and what trades he would have made by this point compared to what we have now.

One of the problems JB had to deal with is that none of their prospects were ready. I get that you want to move on from these guys, but their replacements aren't ready, and you can't roll out that much youth at one time. Trades and UFA's alone can't fix this team.
