That's probably fair enough. But man his 5-hole was so unbelievably bad in those starts. And he had some positioning issues on top of that too. I'm not sure if he's had enough time back in the AHL to tighten up his game.
- hereticpride

It may have been nerves or pressure but Lyon didn't look remotely like an NHL goaltender in those starts. Like you said his fundamentals and positioning was not good.

Johnson is likely all they will go for. Don't see them making a deal that cost them assists when they are potentially 2-3 years away from Hart being nhl ready

He really hasn’t given the Flyers any reason to this point to think he’s ready....agreed.

I would not make any significant deal for a forward or defenseman unless it was a deal for the future. Other than making a reasonably cheap deal for a goaltender with the right contract, I would not give up any future significant assets for a playoff rental.
- MJL

If they can also upgrade their D or forwards without giving up a top prospect or a 1st rounder, I’m all for it. Once you get into the playoffs, anything can happen. Our goalie could get red hot, our opponents could lose key players to injury, young kids could take the next step in their development, etc...

No one expected the 86 Canadiens, the 93 Canadiens or the 06 Hurricanes to win the Cup. No one expected the 91 North Stars, the 98 Capitals, the 02 Hurricanes, the 06 Oilers or the 12 Devils to make the finals. The GM owes it to his players and coaches to improve the team, within reason, wherever possible, prior to the start of the playoffs.

I dont think you mess with the chemistry to much, 4th line upgrade which shouldn't be expensive or difficult
- wcorvette

Agreed, if you can make a move to upgrade the 4th line or get a better option than Manning without giving up key assets, those moves need to be made.

No doubt they need a goalie to help Neuvirth with the workload.

But if they are serious about making some noise in the playoffs, saying they even get there, they probably should find themselves a player who can do a good job killing penalties.

There was good article on the athletic about the Flyers position....it talked about the guys being available in their price range....they really weren’t an upgrade over what’s in philly or Lehigh....it also suggested that most good trades, the type Hextall has touted aren’t made at the dead line.

Playing really well....getting a chance to finally play with skilled players has made all the difference....last year at the World championship, they had him with Marner and McKinnon and he looked like a different player.
- landros 2

Yep.

Though I agree with Hextall's and Hak's MO of moving young players through the system and lineup respectively until they're ready, sometime they overcook them.

Players like Coots and TK were left on bottom 6 lines too long. Most here were repeatedly demanding for them to be given an opportunity to show what they can do with better players and when finally given the chance, have been productive.

Confidence can be a game changer.

I would not give up a 2nd or a 3rd round pick for any playoff rental. If they can improve the team without affecting the future for a prospect that they don't consider part of the future or for something like a 5th round pick without future cap implications then I would be fine with that. This team is not a team where one move will make them into a Cup contender in my opinion.

Understood, and if you can’t make a reasonable deal then you don’t. But Hextall should still be making calls and at the very least, he needs to pick up a legit NHL goalie.

Couturier has been getting top forward minutes on the Flyers for years. I'd rather they overcook a player than rush a player. In my opinion the Flyers have handled Konecny perfectly and they made him improve important areas of his game before giving him an opportunity such as consistent ice time on the top line and that patience is paying off now.

We've disagreed about this in the past and still do, which is fine. No need to rehash it.
