Not that I think Soshnikov is a huge loss. But this is the reason that you don't sign 4th line players like Matt Martin to 4 year contracts.

He should have been the odd man out. But you can't just keep sending these veteran players down to the minors and hope that others will sign with you later when you need them. Guys like Martin shouldn't be given more then 2 years max.

Kenny had interest in signing Martin before he signed with the Leafs. Right now that would be a redundant trade for the Wings. But I could see Kenny doing it.
