Interesting What If story. Listening to the BSN Avs podcost, talking about trade deadline.
They told an almost trade that happened at the 2016 draft before Flames traded for Elliott. The 2 teams were deep in talks in a Sam Bennett and a 2nd rounder for Varlamov.
Deal fell through bc Roy was pushing for the deal, Sakic was not, Flames wanted to find a goalie so they moved on to Elliott instead.
I assume both fan bases are find with this not happening

It kinda depends on whether or not Varlamov would have stayed healthy as a Flame. If he was healthy, that sounds like a pretty good deal for the Flames.

He would of have his surgery back then instead of putting it off till this past offseason.
He would have been his normal .914 self. |

Like I said....the Flames gave up peanuts to get Smith, he's played better, they still have Bennett, and 3 really good goalie prospects.
