Honest question, how much do you put that on Hak? I do think the PK is a coaching staff issue, but the goal differential and 5 on 5 scoring is at least partly personnel.

The 5v5 goal scoring is also a product of the 5v5 goals against

Conversation generator: If Simmonds is being traded this summer who is his replacement on the 3rd line next season?

To me it depends on what the trade looks like. What does 1 year of Simmonds get you? 1st and a younger roster player? Maybe a 3rd line winger comes in from that?

If not, does Hextall bring in a UFA? Not much out there for RWs...https://www.capfriendly.c.../caphit/all/rightwing/ufa

Wingels or Grabner would be the only one's I'd look at. I don't want another dinosaur signing.

Isn't that what Lindblom is being groomed for? A top 9 replacement.

Vecchione, NAK, Rubtsov & Frost will be also competing for bottom 6 spots.

I think Lindblom would be replacing him. It doesn't have to be a RW. Remember Jake is playing his off wing right now

I think hed just move from 2nd LW to 2nd RW

Giroux Couturier Konecny
Raffl/Lindblom Patrick Voracek
Raffl/Lindblom Laughton Weal

4th line is the biggest mystery to me. Next year will show how much they like the current one or are using the players out of necessity.

I don't follow the red wings at all but something doesn't seem right with their goalie situation. Why would they continue with Howard and let Mrazek walk as an RFA? Elliott for Howard would make sense but I don't see it happening. Do the wings have another goalie in their system ready to take over soon?

I don't think they have much confidence in Mrazek anymore. He seems a bit overrated too tbh, maybe it is just poor team in front of him. They like Coreau from what I know. Other than that, no high end guys

They really don't have the money to sign Mrzaek anyway when they can just use Coreau

They are pretty crazy. Seeing the bulge of someone's intestine move under the skin - is a very - "What the F is that, and omg I don't want to see that!" moment.

I think at one point they planned Mrazek to replace Howard but he's kind of fallen off the shelf a bit, so yeah I see them sticking with Howard and bringing Coreau up to backup.

Don't know anything about their goalie prospects

Typically agree that Lindblom will be coming into the fold next season, but I do see a need for one more middle 6 forward. So what I'm thinking is:

28-14-11
OL-19-93
12-21-40
20-Vec-NAK
22

Ideally, I'd love to get someone on that 2nd/3rd line with a bit more offensive punch, like a 35-45 point player.

Thanks that makes sense. I didn't realize how up against the cap the wings are, lot's of people to sign including Larkin. Yikes.

Looking at those lines, that's a smaller team. In your bottom six, you have four guys under 6' tall and most under 200 lbs (listed). I know you don't need size like you used to but that's a small team.

EDIT -- not as big of deal as I thought. Both Tampa and Boston are currently some of the shortest and lightest teams in the NHL, and they're doing fine. https://theathletic.com/2...by-age-height-and-weight/

- dragonoffrost

What about his comment do think suggests you move Jake to 3RW? Is he not merely stating that players often are used in their off wing or off side of a D pairing? Therefore you don't need to get a RW, you merely need to get a wing.

Personally I don't think we trade him without a young lineup player coming back in return. Whether it's a right wing left wing etc I'll slide in player we trade for. Than you can add lindblom next year. I don't see much besides lindblom vecchione and Morin being up next year. Vecchione being 4c for filp

I would say continually coming out flat in the first period is mainly on the coach. People will say they were pretty slow starters under Berube, but the goal differential wasn't nearly as bad (-5), and most of the personnel is different now. Out of the 23 top ice time getters in 13-14 + 14-15, only six remain.

Not advocating for the trade necessarily or suggesting it will happen but, theoretically, they could also go Anderson with Tokarski, then Elliott-Anderson in POs.
- bmeltzer

If they have faith in Tokarski as an NHL backup he should be on the team now instead of Lyon and play one of these next five games to see how he fares
