That article is a steaming pile. They play 11 minutes once a week. No comparison.

I'm not big on Hakstol but he doesn't exactly have a stellar roster to work with either.

Take a moment to appreciate the fact that the “Philly Special”, maybe the gutsiest play call in the history of the NFL, may have never occurred if Pederson didn’t instill that confidence in his players to make that suggestion and ultimately trust their input.

So kind of like Hakstol moving his all star 1st line center to wing?

You really can't compare the sports as Pederson has specialist. Guys only play one side of the ball. They aren't asking the QB to score TD's and also play defense.

For a roster that everyone says is mediocre, he has them in 3rd in the metro. and not far behind 2nd. not sure a lot of people thought they would be here at the start of the season.

Hadn't even thought about Kari, to be honest. Not sure the Stars would want to put all their eggs in the basket of Bishop being healthy and on top of his game for the duration of the stretch and playoffs. There have been a few times Hitch has given Lehtonen more than a spot start here and there although its' about a 2-to-1 ratio in terms of starts and more than that the last few months.

But Lehtonen won't be back with the Stars next season (after a long run in Dallas) and I suppose it is possible that he could be moved. Thing is, the Stars' pre-deadline outlook is to possibly add a piece for the stretch and playoffs, not sell a piece for a draft pick or prospect.

That's a long-winded way of saying I don't think there's a fit.

Thanks Bill, was thinking there was a chance for them to shed cap dollars in case they were in on someone like Nash but doesn't sound likely.

This partcular passage stood out to me.

He is inconsistent in his decision-making regarding performance, particularly with young players that don’t readily fit his style of play like Sanheim, Gostisbehere and Konecny.

Ghost and Konecny are both playing the best hockey of their careers playing the way Hak wants them to play.

Sanheim simply didnt earn his playing time IMO.

Enough is enough. We need diagrams.

As you can see from this googled image. Trust me, I have thought long and hard about this. It seems like it could be either "hockey players syndrome" or just a regular "sports hernia"

I think a lot of people expected them to be where they are. They are two points out of 2nd in the metro, but they're also three points out of a playoff spot completely. That is the definition of a bubble team. I thought once they lost the 10 games, there was no way they would get back into the playoff hunt, but the team has battled back to be in the position they were in.

This roster is mediocre, and that's okay. It's on the right way up. Hak is doing what he can with what he's got. I question some of his moves, mostly personnel moves, but I also not as hard on him as others are around here. I do harshly criticize him of using Lehtera as much as he does, as he has better options (Weal and Weise) on his roster now. I do think Sanheim deserved to be in the NHL, and playing over Manning.

I've said this before and will say it again. My full judgement of Hak will come next year when he's likely got guys on the roster who he can put together a better bottom 6.

Truthfully I think a lot of people expected them to be on the outside scratching to get in not be the best team in the Metro for 1/3 of the season. The 10 game losing streak is the ONLY reason you could still consider them a "bubble" team for the season

An interesting topic and per hockeybuzz rules, I don't completely agree with this. They are both playing the best hockey of their careers, and I think that is all Hakstol really cares about (as long as they win). Hakstol seems to have a reputation of being like a my way or the highway guy and unwilling to change. I don't see it that way. There have been a few things that have changed since he started. They used to dump and chase more, he has tried to work from the defense out, he has changed forechecking and seems to have changed PK strategies, and he has let defensemen join the cycle (something that stopped at times).

I think it is a mutual change, with an element of trust. Both players have shown what good they are capable of, and Hakstol now trusts that what they do will lead to good things. They both have freedom to do some of the stuff they previously tried to do and got benched for when it wasnt working out. Also, they've both just gotten better at making good plays.

Just last game against the Devils, Konecny was making multiple risky passes in the offensive zone (late in the game) that would've previously gotten him stapled to the bench. I think Konecnys time with the top line producing results has convinced Hakstol to loosen the leash so to speak.

What specifically would you say Ghost is doing differently this year as opposed to last year besides making less mistakes and having better luck? He certainly isn't playing less aggressive.

That is why I was patient with him even during the 10 game streak of ugly results but not totally bad hockey. Hak was brought here with the roster he is starting to see this year as his reason for being here. He's finally got Konecny, Patrick (he kinda lucked into that), Laughton, Provorov, Ghost, and Hagg here. Hopefully soon we see Lindblom, Morin, and Sanheim. With many more prospects to follow as the dead weight leaves. As that process continues I think we will have a better view on Hak as a coach.

I also think both TK and Ghost do things the right way off the ice and contribute to the team more so than just on ice production. That must help loosen the so called leash as well through the journey.

You're right. It's like last season people said without the 10-game winning streak they would be bottom feeders.

The thing is that's what happened, to use an NHL 18 term, hopeful teams don't lose 10 games in a row and bottom feeders don't win 10 games in a row. They are likely more in the middle.

Look, usage is a contributing factor. There could be other contributing factors. Anyone who says that it's not possible that there could be factors other than usage is just flat out wrong.
