Staple saying what he did is every bit as (frank)ing stupid as the people that screamed and cried about Elon Musk spending money shooting a rocket into orbit instead of feeding the poor. Because apparently the two are somehow mutually-exclusive. |

You should also feel guilty every time you buy something frivolous or go to a nice restaurant. Thinking of taking a vacation? You evil bastard you could give that money to cancer research!

Agreed Upstate.
Fighting Cancer and giving money to charities to help this cause was a noble idea to put the excess monies raised on the billboard go fund me page. This is a horrible disease that will effect everyone in their lifetime and is no joking matter and I don't think anyone on here was. The fact that Staple and others can twist this into a billboard vs Cancer issue is absolute BS and everyone should call them out on it! |

Someone should ask him if we should stop going to games and buying merchandise so we can donate the money. |

10:55 AM, Feb 15: Hello! So we shot through our second goal again by 10 A.M. this morning, and I've finalized our second billboard location. We had hoped for one close to Northwell, or a prominent LI spot, but there are less viable options in that area. Since options on Long Island are extremely limited, we've picked a sign on Atlantic Avenue, less than a mile from the Barclays Center.
We had also heard suggestions of a billboard regarding John Tavares, but decided to stay to the original goal that we began this campaign with. It is important to us that as fans, we continue to support the players on the ice and as such, opt not to use any players’ namesakes on any signage as it relates to any potential legal liability.
Secondly, we recently received word via Twitter that Anders Lee will be declining any donation toward his Kancer Jam. While we are disappointed, we respect his decision, and love Anders as a New York Islander.
Without a choice in the matter, we have therefore decided to donate any excess donations to the American Cancer Society. While we understand this was not the initial advertised charity, we hope Islanders fans will understand.
We have been receiving word from people asking for us to donate to a different cause, or for a different purpose.
At this point, we should explain that people donated for a particular purpose and we do not feel right changing that purpose after receiving their donations. If anyone still wishes to donate, please consider donating to Lee's Kancer Jam or another charitable cause.
Thank you for the support, as mentioned previously any donations that exceeded our goal will go toward charity, that now being the American Cancer Society. Anyone who would like a refund that donated after 9:25 AM can contact and we will work with you and gofundme to get a refund. Please note, we make no representations as to our ability to get a refund or the success of any such attempt.
Thank you for the support! |
