Pirates owners are much worse than Melnyk. I actually understand Melnyk not wanting to deficit spend on players. The Pirates are very profitable and refuse to pay for players.

That is what Nutting is doing for the SF games this season. He profited by getting rid of McCutcheon and will profit again when he comes back playing for another team. I think he came up with that idea after seeing the reception that Fleury got last week. The guy has no shame. The only thing to do is to boycott the Pirates.

Wow, the guy truly does have no shame.

Is it really the owners fault though? I mean, they were within a game of the Stanley Cup and couldn't sell out all playoffs. How is that the owners fault?

My money is on them moving to Seattle.

There are other circumstances that affect their attendance (arena location) but I do agree to a point. I think most of their games look like last nights which was horribly boring for half the game. Their on ice product is meh which is a result of a tight budget. Boucher employs a certain style to get the most out of that line up. It's just not an entertaining one.
- Thorny87

Oh I definitely agree with that. I was working for the Lightning while he was there and the 1-3-1 was rampant. (frank)ing annoying and boring to watch. I also don't really think they have the talent to play a more up tempo game though. Outside of Karlsson, Hoffman, Brassard, Stone, Duchene... who do they have? Outside of Karlsson.. who's really elite?

RW, how can you suggest the Pens power play doesn't struggle without Hornqvist in the lineup? They're at 28.9% with him in the lineup and 11.5% without him this season.

Where did ya find those numbers? That's interesting.

I'm still trying to find who tweeted after the STL game the Pens were 2 for 25 on the PP without Hornqvist in the lineup. And yesterday the were 1 for 1 so that brings it to 3 for 26. Then from there I did the math on their season totals minus the 3 and 26

I know it's a small sample size (9 games without vs 49 games with Hornqvist) but that's a big drop in PP efficiency.

I was looking at their GF/60 with and without him, and with Letang at the point, with Horny they are like... 12 GF/60 of 5v4 and without him I think it drops to like 8 or 9 GF/60. With Schultz and Horny I think they were at 7 GF/60 and without Horny I think they were hire at 8 GF/60.

Sometimes just straight PP percentages can be tricky to look at because if someone takes a penalty 10 seconds in and negates the PP, they are now 0 for 1, ya know? But either way, there is still a big difference with Horny over Guentzel.

Yeah I agree the PP% can sometimes be skewed like you said. But what I was getting at (and Tojo made it clearer) is you can't just look at Hornqvist pts/60 on the PP versus Gentzals because Hornqvist does more on the PP than just gets points.

Letang/Sheary/B prospect/1st RP for Karlsson/Pageau?

I'd do something like this.

The corporate factor is huge. Here in Calgary a ton of the seats belong to O&G companies. It is true what others here have said though. If you can't get up for your team in the ECF you're not really much of a fan.

It's crazy to me that a Canadian market couldn't sell out playoffs games.

from Mackey

Co-owner Mario Lemieux and general manager had a discussion postgame in the hallway at PPG Paints Arena, one that president/CEO David Morehouse later joined.

Maybe it was dinner plans. Or golf. Or something completely different.

Obviously they're conspiring to make sure JR gets Brassard here.

- YouMeAndDupuis9

Did anyone listen to the GMJR show today? Apparently he made some comments about clearing cap space for a long term solution (assuming this was about a 3c). Also said about being in "win now mode". I was listening to a podcast on Pittsburgh Hockey Now and they mentioned these quotes. Of course I'm not sure of the context.
