I was impressed that the Flyers managed to gut out a win on Sunday night in what looked (to me) to be a sure schedule loss. In theory, tonight could be another tough grind as this is game 4 in like... 6 nights? Hopefully the Flyers have enough left in the tank to win one more. - Doc_Sarcasm
Don’t worry our backups aren’t capable of stopping more than 88% of shots. Flyers 5-2
Weise could be a smarter buyout because it costs so little, and his hit is already on the books for 19-20, the year the Flyers will likely see the biggest cap crunch (Simmonds, Provy, Konecny, Sanheim, Goalies all FA)

a buyout for Weise is pretty reasonable - YuenglingJagr
why buy him out? If he is sent to the minors the team will only carry 1.325M for 2 years. His replacement will probably be on an entry level contract. The only thing he will really be occupying is a contract slot.
Really no need to carry a cap hit for 4 seasons for him

the good thing is that they don't have to. However there are reasons to do so
He takes up a contract spot whether he is in the NHL or AHL (not a huge issue) but both teams are becoming very deep. Yeah he could be a veteran presence for the Phantoms, but I think that would be up to him and the team if they wanted to do that. Certainly a possibility.
The bigger reason is just money. It saves the team money to buy him out and the way the contract is structured, it only costs 12k more to buy him out in the 19-20 season than it does to have him buried. So essentially the same cap hit and he isn't around anymore, plus the other years his buyout cap hit is much less ($683,333) . So yeah I am not keeping him around longer than he needs to for $683k

I don't think dollars and cents really matter to the Flyers. Why carry any cap hit for 4 years when you can end it all in 2? The only pain is a contract slot, which isn't a huge issue
Here are the five Flyers with the highest 5v5 scoring rates since the start of the 2013-14 season
Player G/60
Michael Raffl 0.77
Sean Couturier 0.72
Wayne Simmonds 0.65
Travis Konecny 0.63
Claude Giroux 0.62
Some may simply rebuke that statistic by saying that the Flyers have not exactly set the world alight at 5v5 over the last few seasons. That would be correct. However, when you look at Raffl’s rate of scoring when compared to the NHL as a whole it is still excellent. His 0.77 G/60 since the start of his NHL career is 90th amongst the 422 forwards who have seen 1500+ minutes of ice time.

Did Bill say on here or on twitter that he thinks the Flyers will buy out Lehtera this summer? I hope that's correct, but they way they have used him in 2018 is incredibly odd if they are planning a buyout.

The graphic you saw was for Metro teams...even if we pretend the 10 game losing streak doesn't exist, Boston has the most points in the NHL since December 4th
